    - Dana- A couple of thoughts.- How hard is it to take a Quicksilver apa rt for winter storage?- Do you really want to rent a hanger?- Your new field is just a field.- As far as reliability, you only had the one probl em that I remember.- You didn't mention the price on the Quick, but there are some very attractive prices on two seat Kolbs on Barnstormers lately. - As far as landing off airport in Ct., you are more likely to need climb ing gear than long legs. - ------------------------- ----------------------- Bill Sullivan ------------------------- ----------------------- Winds or locks, Ct.

Dana, Have you ever had an accident in any airplane? I don't have any experience with a Quicksilver but know that I would not be comfortable in a fuselage structure made of only aluminum tubing. The one landing incident I had in an early FS that resulted in me flipping over on to my back resulted in minor injury to my shins from impact with the instrument panel. Otherwise, I was completely untouched, except economically. Many Kolbers have experienced walk-away incidents that might not have turned out so well in all aluminum designs. My SS is NOT for sale but there are quite a few FS for sale on barnstormers at the moment. Personally, I would not risk my butt in a Quick crash by saving a few $k, even if I had to beg, borrow or purloin the difference in price between a Quck and Kolb. do not archive -------- Thom Riddle Buffalo, NY (9G0) Kolb Slingshot SS-021 Jabiru 2200A #1574 Tennessee Prop 64x32 Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful. - A couple more thoughts.- If the two seat Quicksilver is N-numbered, w hat is Connecticut's property tax?- Is Conn. going up on the aircraft tax /registration? -And, how much more is the insurance on a two seater?- A nd finally, why is your friend letting it go so cheap? - ------------------------- ---------------------- Bill Sul livan ------------------------- ---------------------- Windsor Locks, Ct.

Dana, Quicks have their drawbacks, all planes do, even Kolbs. :-} It will be as safe you are so if it passes inspection and you like the way it flies, have fun. You said the price is very attractive, maybe you can fly it until you tire of not having a Kolb, sell it for a profit, and find yourself a nice Mk III. I walked with a cane for about 3 months afterward, but I walked away from the wreck. I could have repaired that Quick in a few weeks for a few hundred bucks; similar damage to a Kolb would have taken a _lot_ longer to fix, probably a year or more at the rate I work, and cost a lot more. That's when I sold the Quick, as is, and bought the UltraStar. This is not a criticism of Kolbs, Kolbs are much better airplanes in many ways... but everything is compromise. >I don't have any experience with a Quicksilver but know that I would not >be comfortable in a fuselage structure made of only aluminum tubing... It's not just about the material, but also the structural design. I know Quick pilots who don't feel comfortable with the idea of sitting way out in front like I do in my US. I still don't know what I'm going to do right now... I'm just toying with the idea, trying to decide what I really want, within the constraints of what I can afford. -Dana -- Why are there Interstate highways in Hawaii?
