Last time around, we rolled our own, this time we got the STOL Speed VG's and simply followed the company's recommendation that we put them at 10% chord, or 6" back from the leading edge. Stall speed dropped from 35 indicated to 30 indicated, and slow flight is very pleasant. Installation was easy, took about 4 hours from start to finish, half of that was putting the double stick tape on the underside of the VG's. Really thin tape, and incredibly sticky. They supplied lots of extra tape (pre-cut to fit) and plenty of extra VG's. IMO, a good product. I bought one and mounted it on a mobile test stand that weighed about 350 lbs. [like a go cart].don't remember size of prop. It would get up to about 35 mph. We tried various carbs. but never felt we had enough power to fly a Kolb. We did see a Skyraider [?] or something fly with an 084 at a fly-in, but climb was very anemic. We also tried a 4A032 with a redrive. Cute little engine, but very weak Howard Shackleford FS II In a message dated 4/29/2011 3:44:41 A.M. I liked the idea of rounded corners. Having cut the fool out of myself more than once on the home made metal ones with square corners, (as did Ed) the idea of rounded corners just sort of sounded nice. And IMO, all of them do essentially the same thing. If there are any differences, they are probably too small (for me) to measure. The speed reduction and handling improvement with these is the same as with the ones I copied from Jack Hart, (and have on the MKIII, and previously, on this airplane) with a whole lot less effort involved. Didn't have to make them, paint them, test them in different areas, etc. The thinking was: "Why not just get the ones that come with transparent 2-sided tape, and are user-friendly?" So we did, and they lived up to their advertising copy. Probably the Landshorter ones would have also. But they have square corners. Which means that eventually Ed or I would have laid open our increasingly thinner skin. (You young guys don't know what I'm talking about. Be patient: you will) Richard Pike MKIII N420P (420ldPoops) (PS: sure do wish the wind would quit blowing 20 mph every day, I wanted really bad to go take some pictures yesterday and today of what the tornadoes have done, but it is not fit flying weather. One guy got off the ground and out of ground effect a lil bit, but it was very marginal. There is at least one guy flying a 2A042 (1/2 the 084) and his lil plane seems to fly purdy good.
