Am sorry to reach out to you like this, I made a quick trip to London, UK and
I was attack by some hoodlums and I had my bag stolen from me with my passport
and credit cards in it.
I just have to pay for a ticket and settle Hotel bills immediately. Unfortunately
for me, I can't have access to funds without my credit card.
I was thinking of asking you to lend me some quick funds that I can give back as
soon as I get in. I really need to be on the next available flight.
I can forward you details on how you can get the funds to me. You can reach me
via email.
i await your response...

Not to be the turd in the punch bowl, but your Firestar most likely
is not a
legal ultralight, they're too heavy.
It probably won't ever cause you a problem, but just in case,
don't have the
number one dead giveaway, make sure you don't have a fuel tank
bigger than 5
gallons. That's the legal limit and except for a second seat,
it's the one
thing that someone can walk up and see that your aircraft doesn't
qualify.
Rick Girard
List,
I've never seen this discussed here before so I have a question about
the max 5 gallon tank. Is there any rule against carrying jugs of
gas/oil mixture in a compartment behind the 5 gallon tank in use? When
I fly beyond my 5 gallon return point I carry up to three jugs of mix
and land to pour them into my five gallon tank. I can't see the
difference between carrying bottles of two cycle oil and mixing with
available gas and carrying jugs of already mixed. Any thoughts or
experiences?

Dear Al,
serves you right. You should never go to London unless you wish to be
attacked.
You cannot step outside the Savoy these days without some ner-do-well
removing your fingers with a chain cutter to steal the rings from it.
Robbers have often been known to cut the pearl from your belly button or
the diamond from your nostril with a Stanley Knife while you wait for a bus.
It is no good going to the police. They are almost entirely working with the
thieves. The Police will direct someone who asks the way down a dark alley
where they will be attacked, beaten up and robbed. They then share their ill
gotten gains between them.
The tourists `hot` spots like the Tower of London or Buckingham Palace are
worst. I have myself been attacked by a `Beefeater` at the Tower. I was
battered on the head and held at the point of a pike while another
`Beefeater` colleague robbed me.
The only consolation is that everywhere else is so much worse. My wife had a
Druid leap upon her while walking around Stonehenge and a turbulent priest
stole her handbag in Canterbury Cathedral.
Other countries are much, much worse.
The best advice you can accept is to stay home in Nigeria where everyone is
a friend and you can always borrow someones computer to send silly messages
to the rest of the world.

The rules specify a fuel capacity not exceeding 5 gallons to qualify as an
ultralight. Many have interpreted this to mean that carrying an extra can
is, if not within the intent of the rules, at least within the
letter. However, like so many things, it would probably come down to the
mood or attitude of the FAA guy who's enforcing the rules.

Subject: instant hangars?
I came across this in a mag.
A company called Concrete Canvas makes an impregnated canvas which when
made wet hardens into a concrete like substance.
It made me think of the possibility of a tent like structure which could
be supported on a light framework, covered with this canvas with folds
and corrugations arranged for strength. Wet it and in a few hours it
hardens into `concrete`. Remove the framework and it seems that an
unsupported covered space is a distinct possibility.
|pparently used in Afghanistan to back up sandbag defences it can also
be used underwater. With a retarded solidifying time it can be worked
into cracks and crevices, nailed etc.
It is fireproof and potentially bulletproof. It could be covered with
earth or some other good insulating material.
Worth investigating.

I have some sad news to report. Mark's hanger at Forest Lake (25D in Minnesota)
was broken into last night and my Kolbra was targeted. The thieves stole the
engine, battery, aircraft seatbelts, and all avionics by unbolting and cutting
off the engine cable and unscrewing the panel and cutting off the wires to all
the instruments. Mark's large snowblower, tools, and battery charger were also
stolen. Mark just finished building his new RANS S-7 and he is worried that
his fuel may have been compromised although his airplane looked intact.
They got in through the locked door and then opened the bi-fold hanger door to
bring a hoist and vehicle into the hanger. This was all done under the cover of
darkness. Mark called the police this morning and they have the engine serial
number (#4400582). The Warp Drive tapered prop was also stolen (#T9433). The
engine had a Titan exhaust system with a specially-made prop spacer. This polished
aluminum prop spacer is very large and is one-of-a-kind.
If anyone has any information on this please contact me or local law enforcement
(651-325-6461 Forest Lake Police Department). Please be on the lookout for anyone
who has recently acquired a used 912UL 80hp engine. The instruments, include
an EIS, transponder, Microair radio, ASI, altimeter, and compass.
I would appreciate it if you could forward this to other lists that I am not aware
of.
Here are some pictures ...
Thanks for any information about this theft,

I still have pictures of your Firestar on skies and your superman flying
low over the frozen lakes.
Hang in there!

Ralph, Sorry to hear about the break in! I don`t know the laws in
Minnesota. However, in a lot of states "tampering with an aircraft "
carries a stiffer penalty then a routine theft. Sure hope the perps
get caught, so they can throw the legal book at them! Lanny FSII

Can't begin to tell you how sad this news is, right at the beginning of our

insurance covers and your back in the sky soon.

I'm not 100% sure, but still pretty sure that, if the aircraft is
N-numbered, then it's a federal offense to intentionally tamper or damage an
aircraft. That means the FBI can get notified, if you want to go that
route.

Thanks guys for your support. I believe tampering with an aircraft is a federal
offense and I'm hoping for some justice.
Needless to say, this not only violates me, but the whole aviation community. Mark
called me tonight saying that
he doesn't even feel like flying and he just built a brand new RANS S-7.
The pilots at the Forest Lake airport are up in arms and are securing their hangers
for fear it may happen to them too.
Again thanks for your support and they got the headsets and my new audio cable
that I made for videos. Sickening ...
This made me believe there are home-grown terrorists that have no conscience at
all ...

That about sums it up. It must have been at least two low lifes and your stuff
is probably in a garage within a ten mile radius.

A security camera makes a lot of sense. With a $20,000.00 engine sitting on
top of my mkIII, I would hate to lose it. Only takes a few minutes to
snatch one off the airframe.
