I will be calling the FBI this morning and see what they say.>> Hard luck Ralph, break ins always leave a nasty sense of personal violation. We had a spate of break ins here in the UK a few years back. Planes on trailers were just hitched up and driven away. In a few hours they could be in France and lost on the Continent. If you are contacting the FBI you could try Homeland Security as well. Convince them that you think someone is clandestinely building a plane you will have a standing patrol of F14`s over you . Pat

Backfilled the entrance ramp to nearly level, for easy entrance and exiting the Kolb in and out. I want to thank all of you for your comments. Many people, law enforcement, and the feds are now involved with this case. It is a federal offense to tamper with an aircraft, so the FBI has been notified. This doesn't affect me only. It has angered many pilots here and around the country. This was a beautiful aircraft with marvelous workmanship by Mark German. Those people that committed this crime had no respect for that or aviation. We had many trips planned in the Kolbra this summer and none of that will take place. I would like to rebuild, but it will take time and effort to do that. Laurie is hurting as she loves to fly and can't. I believe whomever did this or is responsible for this crime is in serious hot water with all the people working the case. They will be caught and prosecuted. I would not want to be in their shoes right now. Folks: This is the most difficult time I have had getting a good weather window long enough to fly from Alabama to Oregon. Crazy weather. Snowing in Denver. High winds in Kansas. Patience, patience, patience! Going to give it another shot Sunday morning, unless there is a big change in the weather between now and then. Then again, I may not get out of here Sunday. john h mkIII Titus, Alabama

A while back, I called a local alarm company and got them to give me about 10 old cameras with mounts that had been removed from a bank. We installed them all over our field [dummy cameras] along with a bunch of warning signs. It has worked so far. Shack do not archive List, My problem was the opposite, leaving rather than taking. I live just over South Mt. from the city on a dead end road. When I bought the place in '00 I spent days hauling everything from construction debris to old appliances to the landfill. Since then I've still put up with jerks sneaking down at night and dumping. I bought the cameras with blinking lights and mounted them on telephone poles along the road. They were very effective, but after about a year the batteries die and it's kind of a hassle to drive my front end loader into the brush, climbing up to the raised bucket, and taking the cover off the camera to replace the battery. My property is well populated with hungry deer and I have Nite Guard (amazon.com for about twenty bucks) solar blinkers which last years around my property, so I relocated a couple onto the telephone poles by the dummy cameras and now my problem is history. The Nite Guard devices blink much brighter than the camera lights and they last years, so for me it's worth the extra money. Good luck to all who have a problem with the pond scum who steal from or dump on your property. There must be a special place in hell for such unmitigated arrogance. Awwwh , that's too bad.... If you have insurance.... you might be the prime suspect... It looks too clean , no damage getting it out... Unscrewed the EIS ??? How considerate of the thief.... . You don't have any enemies in the area do you ? . "IF" you didn't do it yourself... it's someone you know... Someone who has been in the hanger.... . . Just so you know... The fly-ins have had terrible turn outs since you called the FAA several times ... Wow.... Maybe one of THOSE guys got even ? . . Oh well... What a shame... . . -------- . . . . Ron, The FAA has a publication you might want to look at. Advisory Circular 103-7 (AC 103-7) "The Ultralight Vehicle" explains the ins and outs of determining if your aircraft qualifies (or at least let you know what "the man" will look for). You can download it here: http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentID/22640 <http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentID/22640>There's also AC 103-6 "Ultralight Vehicle Operations, Airports, ATC, and Weather" http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentID/22639 <http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentID/22639>Both are free. Good luck and safe flying. Charles Lindbergh was on his way to see the Broadway musical "Rio Rita" when he decided to give the weather bureau a call just in case. The next morning NX-211, the "Spirit of St. Louis" lifted off Roosevelt Field in Long Island, NY bound for Paris, France. The rest is, as they say, history. Attached is NACA Technical Note No. 257, "Technical Preparation of the Airplane "Spirit of St. Louis"" by Donald Hall, the engineer who designed her. Yeah, I know it's not a Kolb, but if you were waiting for the weather to clear so you could start a long flight, :-}, it might help you pass the time.
