Following this discussion with interest and have wondered if your insurance carrier
might want to know if you're flying "illegally", i.e. flying as a Part 103
but not meeting the requirements. Weight, speed, fuel cap, etc. Could they
not refuse claims if not within the rules?

I thought you set up your own list? Please take your hate mail to your own
list and leave our Kolb list for Kolb stuff.

Richard,
Thanks so much for this find!
My dad was born on 19-May-1927 and has always enjoyed that coincidental con
nection. He's also an engineer as well as pilot (PT-19, T6, B25, Cessnas,
Grumman Cheetah, 2 flights so far in my Firestar). He also loves reading n
onfictional stuff.
I'm sending the report on to him as a belated birthday "gift" and he will e
at it up, no doubt.
Thanks again!

Charles Lindbergh was on his way to see the Broadway musical "Rio Rita" whe
n he decided to give the weather bureau a call just in case. The next morni
ng NX-211, the "Spirit of St. Louis" lifted off Roosevelt Field in Long Isl
and, NY bound for Paris, France. The rest is, as they say, history.
Attached is NACA Technical Note No. 257, "Technical Preparation of the Airp
lane "Spirit of St. Louis"" by Donald Hall, the engineer who designed her.
Yeah, I know it's not a Kolb, but if you were waiting for the weather to cl
ear so you could start a long flight, :-}, it might help you pass the time.

Subject: | John Hauck and video |
Just got a call from John. He was getting some lunch in Ark. on his way
out West. He finally got tired of waiting and headed out. Final stop for
the night will be Neosho hopefully.
I took a flight to the Alvord to check on the water levels. This is only
my third flight of the year. A combination of weather and wimpy behavior
on my part has kept me on the ground doing other things that need to be
done. The weather today was going to be close as there was a front
coming in, not a large one, but could be unpleasant none the less.
The video is in my blog, which gives a bit more information as well as
some pictures and the video.

John just called from Neosho, Mo. Seven and a half hours, all of it
windy and rough.
