From: Richard Girard I've been doing business with Surplus Center for about 10 years, now. The product description will always tell you if the item is new or a take off (you'll find this primarily in electrical stuff) and I've never been "bitten" by anything I've bought from them. You do need to watch the "in stock" number in the description, too. If you want four and they only have three, it could mess up your project planning considerably. In 2003 I took on designing and building a machine that fed cedar shingles into an automatic painting machine and a stacker for when they came out. I bought all the drive components, hydraulic motors, sprockets, chains, and bearings from them and everything was just as described and, so far as I know, is still running just fine. If you get on their mailing list, you'll get a nice catalog ever so often that's kind of fun to look through. All in all, they're a great company, they sell top rate stuff, not seconds, that I know of anyway, and they ship promptly. Two thumbs up, as they say. Rant follows: Please resize the pictures so we don't have to scroll from side to side all through the length of an extended post because the pictures are three times the size of the screen. It's not that hard to fix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Microsoft-Image-Resizer.shtml C'mon guys - please? Back to the topic at hand. I have flown with the doors off, and handling is fine, but goggles are a good idea, because you will get a LOT of wind coming through. I like my "Bikini" doors, I have one full set of doors for cold weather and another Bikini set for the summer. Here is the Bikini set. It is just like being in your car with the windows open, very airish, and no wind in the face. Great for taking unobstructed pictures too. I suspect that I could have cut them even further forward and they still would work OK, however last week I went flying just before sunset, and by the time I was headed home, I was glad to be able tuck my left arm in, as it was getting a bit coolish in the breeze. If you put the hinges on the other way, half doors will not need a prop, because you can lay them over on top of the windshield. I did these backwards. Duh... Here is my door prop, it doesn't work with the half doors, but catches the back end of the full door. A bit of rubber fuel line at the base, a bit of clear at the tip to keep from scarring the Lexan or slipping. The OP suggested using a spring, great idea, if you put it at the front, you can kick it out of column with your foot when you are ready to close the door. Dates are from about 2005 to present. Free to whoever wants them. You pay postage (I'm guessing approx $15). I'd rather send them to someone who might want to read them rather than throw 'em away. All I had to do is increase rpm Duh! It always runs great full throttle but they were off by 5 tics of what ever the gage sold by Lockwood uses for display. Now runs good and idles well. I was pitched 5450 rpm before. Now wot is as low as 5000. Rarely higher than 5250 - 5300. Of course some of the variance is thermal related. Here's the weired part If I pull up hard I can always get 5350. Take off is mind blowing. In the air the last 1/4 throttle doesn't seem to change rpm. Well that may be true on TO but I don't have time to think about checking it. Anyone got a clue? I surely don't. : -------- Vic 912ul Xtra Maine Too old to cut the mustard but not the cheese.
