Many aircraft, including modern fighters, have side sticks. Some pilots prefer it to a center stick, some do not, just as some prefer a stick vs. a control wheel (yoke). The only real advantage to a center stick is the ability to fly with either hand if you need the other hand to do something (e.g. tuning radios, etc.). During normal flying, you don't even notice where it is. -Dana -- "Just think how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are even stupider!" --George Carlin

Rick=2C The ELT locator radio is one of the last things I need install=2C and I n oticed yours in your photos. I haven't decided on a final location=2C but at the moment I'm leaning toward the "under the passenger seat" position. By any chance=2C did you notice if your ELT beacon went off? Do you now have to report your accident to the FAA? What about logbook entries for the repair s/etc? I'm curious because I don't know how an "experimental" plane handles things like this. I've got a pretty good idea about certified planes and accidents=2C just no t in this case. Mike Welch

Except for the Kolb list, I'm not telling anybody anything. I have a local offer of a kit for less than the price of a fuselage truss from the factory. If that works out, I'll build it and store the wreckage for this winter. No, I never turn the ELT on. It's there to be legal, nothing else. If I were flying cross country, I'd turn it on, but in the pattern there's no point. Besides, it's a 121.5 unit and they're not monitored anyway. Maybe I'll elect to install a 406 Mhz unit someday, but the price is going to have to come down by 70% before I do. Vic, Just a guess but I suspect if flying with one door removed you will experience some yaw effects, could be more than you want. My Kolb only has a flip-over canopy so I can't say for certain. Subject: Looking for info about route to Oshkosh
Hi folks - On Tuesday, July 19, four "fat ultralights" (all registered E-LSAs) will be leaving Sandy, Oregon to fly to Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture. We all have 2- cycle engines and plan to fly IFR. (I follow roads.) Here is the route we're thinking about taking. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212033171749363263482.0004a3349abce15 9efad6&msa=0 If any of you have live along or have flown portions of this route, we'd ap preciate hearing- your comments and suggestions. Checking out sectionals and Google Earth goes just so far - we'd love to hear from about better pos sibilities, not-to-be-missed airports and sights, etc. Thanks for any info you're willing to share. I have a static port in a tube right under the pitot tube but this gave a reading that was too high or too low, I can't remember. So I added a T connector which splits the static between inside the nosecone and the static tube. That is usually right on the money until I take my doors off. -------- Scott Olendorf Original Firestar, Rotax 447, Powerfin prop Schenectady, NY http://sites.google.com/site/kolbfirestar/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=345168#345168
