Subject: | Contributions Down By 20%... |
Dear Listers,
As of today, Contributions to the Matronics List Fund Raiser are lagging behind
last year at this time by roughly 20%. I have a Fund Raiser each year simply
to cover my operating costs for the Lists. I *do not* accept any advertising
income to support the Lists and rely solely on the Contributions of members to
keep the expenses paid.
I run all of my own servers and they are housed here locally, and the Internet
connection is a commercial-grade, T1 connection with public address space. I
also maintain a full backup system that does nightly backups of all List-related
data so that in the event of a server crash, all of the Lists and the many
years of List archive data could be restored onto a new server in a matter of
hours.
All of this costs a fair amount of money, not to mention a significant amount of
my personal time. I have a Fund Raiser each year to cover these costs and I
ask that members that feel they receive a benefit from my investments make a
modest Contribution each year to support the continued operation and upgrade of
these services.
If you enjoy the Lists, please make a Contribution today. I also offer some incentive
gifts for larger Contribution levels. At the Contribution Web Site, you
can use a credit card, Paypal, or personal check to show your support for the
continuation of these services:

Or, drop a personal check in the mail to:

All the emails (John and Larry's) come through just fine for me.

This may ruffle a few feathers here, ... but let's hope it helps get the contributions
back up for a great forum !

- John- I think it's the Matronics computer.- When I enter something, m
y font stays the same.- The line length changes when I get it back.- Re
gular e-mails from me to others don't do it.- Maybe Matt knows why

I don't know if anyone else has this issue,,, when I post to the active
list I do not get my post back on the active list. but I do get it back
on the digest version. I finally subscribed to both just to make sure my
postings were getting through. maybe there is a problem with my isp.

btw,,, did some experimenting,,, if you go to tools, option, then read,
you can check the box by 'read all messages in plain text' and that will
get rid of the too long lines,,,, it seems that when a message is sent
html,, the body of the text goes out twice in the same message, there is a
plain text version imbedded in the html version.... that way the person
receiving the message can choose how he will see it.
I haven't checked them all,,, but it seems that messages that are sent to
the active list, are sent from matronics as html... and the digest is
sent plane text. depending on how you receive the list, may be part of
the reason some have lines that are too long, and why some are ok.

just a test,,,, seemed I sent a plain text message to the digest list
and it came back on the active list in plain text,,, this one is being
sent to the active list, in html. and I will see if it comes back, and
what format it is in when it does

Dennis, I know that John Hauck posted a comment to you recently requesting
that you stop posting non Kolb items here. That you openly make the subject
"may ruffle a few feathers" gives the impression that you know you are
misusing the list and just don't care.
Let me add my concurrence with John's request. *This is not a chat room.* I
t
is a forum for the very specific purpose of sharing information about
building, flying, and maintaining Kolb aircraft. While the occasional off
topic post is tolerated, you seem to have nothing to offer about Kolb
aircraft. Perhaps you should find another forum with a broader interest.
So how about it. Keep your posts here on topic and take all the rest
somewhere else.

for those receiving post that scroll off the screen.... I am using
vista, so your mileage may vary. here may be the fix, or info that may
help.
after opening the mail program, I hit "tools" then "options" at the
top of the screen there are tabs, look for the "read" and "send" tabs.
in the "read" tab, if you check the box " (X) read all messages in plain
text" that may help, but you will loose the rich formatting of the text
as supplied by the author. i.e. different fonts, color, sizes, etc.
in the "send" tab: you can set the "mail sending format" to "plain
text or html" if you select plain text all messages will be sent
plain text unless you have the box checked " (X)reply to messages in
the format they were sent" in which case if you receive a html message
and hit reply, it will reply in html. even if you have selected plane
text for the sending format, it overrides. if you just create mail, it
will go in plain text.
if anytime you want to over ride the default while composing an email,
go to the menu bar and press "format" and choose which format you want,
plain text or html.
it seems that matronics will forward the post in plain text or html,
depending on which format the message was received in. even the digest
mode which comes in plain text,,, has a link to a html version.
I hope this helps. if not sorry.
