Ed,
On my thundering 447 the brown wire is the ground for the kill circuit for the
Ducatti ignition... The kill loop runs from the Ducatii, by way of the Black/yellow
wire to the kill switch and by the brown wire to ground. I ground the brown
wire to the engine. And I installed a ground strap between the engine and
the cage.
My Key West Reg. is powered by the two light loop wires (Yellow and Yellow/black)
from the alternator, to the AC inputs. I run the DC neg. to the cage.
Good luck...

Ed,
I hit the SUBMIT button too quick...
You said "I think the brown wire goes from the engine down to the negative post
on the Key West regulator."
I don't think so. I believe the brown wire that is the right length be attached
to the case of your engine, is the end point of the kill circuit for the ignition
and should run from the case back to the kill switch.
The brown wire has no business anywhere near you Key West Regulator.
I have attached a .pdf file that is a wiring diagram of my engine...

Subject: | Fw: Warp Drive prop |
- The reason I was asking about the identification of Ellery's prop is th
at the photo of the inside of it does not match photos others have posted.
- I have an old WD with 2 sets of blades.- One blade was broken when I
flipped the plane over.- The inside of that blade doesn't seem to look li
ke any other photo posted.- The conversation has been quite informative.
- I have used tap testing on various laminates at work, and wasn't aware
that it could be used as a tool on the prop.- Come spring, I will check m
ine.- My FS is one of the very early ones- no serial number- and the engi
ne and prop may be the same age.- No reason was given for the extra blade
s that came with it, but there had been a storm flip over.
- Based on all the comments, my gut feeling is that old WD's may be of di
fferent construction, and the newer one's are much stronger.- I may just
send all I have down to Daryl at WD for inspection.- If I can figure out
my camera and post a photo, I'll try.- My computer skills leave a lot to
be desired.

Subject: | Re: FAA registration renewal |
Richard,
Thanks for posting the response. Essentially, there is no such thing as a "renewal".
In all cases, it is like a new owner registering it for the first time.
It is wrong for the FAA to call it a renewal if it is treated like a new registration
but that is far from the worst thing about the FAA, so I'm not going to
bother trying to change their minds.
I received my new registration in about two weeks from the time I did the process
on-line. This tells me that in the future, I can safely wait until the first
of the month in which the old one expires before re-registering on-line. So,
knowing this, we can still get our full three years, unless they start slowing
down the on-line re-registration process.

Just got this from Mike, he's working on it:
Richard,
Yes, obviously, a virus has taken over my email. I've been trying to acknowledge
this to everyone, but none of my emails can be sent out!! Could you send
an email to the Kolb list, and let everybody know I'm working on it right now.
My regular Hotmail account will NOT let me send anything out, which I suspect
is part of the virus's control. I've changed my password, but so far that
hasn't helped yet.
In the meantime, thanks for giving everyone a 'heads up' on opening links in
my emails. I'm trying to fix things at this moment.

Henry, Ed, Ground is ground is ground, to paraphrase Gertrude Stein.
Grounding the brown wire to the regulator is nothing special as long as the
ground continues to the fuselage weldment. There is no special ground for
the ignition modules.

Mr. Z et al:
Have had similar experience (on & off the Kolb list).
Common thread seems to be that the victims are those with "hotmail" email address.

Everyone=2C
I have worked for hours today trying to fix my Hotmail emal account (with
out success). On my MACcomputer=2C the "email" part is the problem. I fou
nd I can log onto Safari=2C then log ontoHotmail=2C and everything seems ok
. It's the actual "email" function that is STILL screwed up.
Tomorrow I will bail on Hotmail=2C permanently. This is a serious PITA
=2C and having a Hotmail account is NOTworth it. I will create a new serve
r email=2C and forward my email addresss to everyone. Thankyou for bearing
with me while I try to get this mess resolved.
Obviously=2C in the meantime=2C do NOT open any files from me=2C because
I'm not the one sending files. If this email goes out....and you're able t
o read it=2C it is being sent out by me loggong intomy Hotamil account dire
ctly. I will not use the Mac (little postage stamp) icon anymore.

Henry,
I am planning to attach one end of the brown wire to the
engine and the other end to a connector that allows the same brown wire to
continue and attach to a screw on the airframe which seems to me like it
will work the same as a ground strap. Before I had the brown wire running
from the engine To the neg. terminal on the K W regulator and some how it
worked. Thanks for the response.
