OK.... So are we just going to trade comments? I sent a E-Mail but only got a form letter response with a link to their web site. Does anyone have a E-Mail address to someone that can/will fix it? How about our politicians? I'm not going to send my "re-registration" in till I get my 2nd warning letter 60 days before it expires. Yes I know I will risk their wrath. Also I just renewed my annual state aircraft registration in Michigan. Seems like they could talk to the states. They wouldn't get away with this with automobiles there would be too many. A paper malfunction does not cause an airplane to fall out of the sky. Best laugh of the day: Or they [FAA] could surprise us and recognize their error, and correct it , I doubt this was a conspiracy; as has been said incompetence is a much simpler explanation. I have to admit that I am of the same mind as Boyd, after all if you choose to get your bi annual a bit early it changes as well. Gents, I read this list because I built a Firestar I many years ago and still love Kolbs even though I don't have one at present. I do have another plane an d this string on the re-registration bugs me as much as you. So I asked on e of my good friends at the FAA to get the name of the individual responsib le for this process (the "stuckee"). His name is John Bent at the FAA regi stry. Email is john.g.bent@faa.gov and his phone number is 405-954-4331. He is just one guy in the bureaucracy so don't get mad, just express your f rustration and hopefully he can fix the system. -----Original Message----- From: Arksey <Arksey@aol.com> Sent: Fri, Jan 27, 2012 3:20 pm Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Re: FAA registration renewal I would think in this day and age we could start a petition using the inter net that we could sign and send on to anyone willing to listen...flying wea ther in michigan is not good for ski's bare ground here...jswan Jim Swan Kolb Firestar ll, 503 Rotax , 6147 Wilcox Rd., Eaton Rapids, Mi 48 827 ph 517-663-8488 GPS GPS FOR MY RUNWAY N 42 deg 28.581 W084deg 44.825 In a message dated 1/27/2012 10:15:44 A.M. Scott, Kolb Aircraft 'may' offer fiberglass tips for the Xtra. They did install a set on their factory demo Xtra once. As far as making droop tips a common factory option, you'd have to ask them. Call Travis @ Kolb Aircraft. "Some" guys have built their own droop tips. Here is a picture of mine that I made for my plane last year. Do a search for "nose skid". I posted some pictures of my design some time ago. Some people liked it; others raised a fuss. I got an email from TNK at the time & they were complimentary and had no problems with it. I use it as a front pull handle, tie down point if required, and I also attached my pitot and static tubes to it. Dennis, You can make your own from FAR 43 Appendix D. Some specifics like acceptable compression and the means of measuring it will depend upon your aircraft's engine type, but all the requirements for a conditional inspection are there.
