Subject: | Hours on Airframe and Fabric |
Hi Forum,
Was wondering how high of hours can a Mark III have on the airframe with normal
stresses?
How long is the fabric on the wing good for if it is kept in a trailer and only
exposed to light when flown?
Sorry for the silly questions,
Wesley

Wes/Kolbers:
I don't know how many hours one could put on a MKIII airframe under normal
stress before retirement or failure.
At this time I have 3,197.7 hours on my MKIII fuselage over a period of
nearly 21 years. I don't think the fuselage is anywhere near the end of its
serviceable lifetime.
I have original fabric on all of my MKIII except the left wing, aileron, and
flap. Which was recovered in 2000, after an accident. The upper and lower
vertical stabilizer were recovered 6 or 8 years ago, I think. The original
fabric still test good. I keep my MKIII in a T hanger with open front that
faces east.
Can't remember now how many coats of Polyspray was used, but enough to
prevent any light from penetrating through using a 100 watt light bulb.
