I placed a tie wrap on the control tube and cycled the flaps full up to full down
- 1 5/8 " total travel.

That sounds about right. I will compare to my Firefly next work day in the
shop. I know that the area of the torque tube that was not powder coated
was about twice that length, but maybe the slider is not supposed to move
that far.
