Subject: | fabric gluing question |
Guys,
The Poly Fiber manual says to put two coats of thinned Poly Brush on the
surfaces that you will be gluing to, before gluing with Poly Tac. It says
that this provides a bedding for the Poly Tac.
The Firefly manual says to pre-coat the surfaces with a thin coat of Poly
Tac. No mention of Poly Brush.
I don't see any advantage to using Poly Brush on a metal surface. There may
be a need for it on a wood structure that was not sealed.
I have been experimenting with scrape frames and some old glue and fabric I
had from another project. Just re-learning things and getting my methods
down before diving in to the real thing. Even if practice doesn't make
perfect, it can't hurt, right?
Anyway, what method did you use, Poly Brush bedding or no?
Thanks in advance,
Stuart

=C2- I used a method recommended by another builder.=C2- I just brushed
two coats of Poly Tac on the metal, and let dry.=C2- Pulled the fabric o
ver it, brushed some MEK on the fabric, and rubbed a gloved finger on it.
=C2- Worked great, and if you goof you can loosen it with MEK and pull st
raight.=C2- Almost instant.=C2- Afterwards, you can flatten with an iro
n.=C2- Simple and easy.=C2- You will enjoy doing this.=C2- Like you,
I suspect the Poly Brush is to seal wood.=0A=0A=C2-=C2-=C2-=C2-=C2

when I read your statement of polly brush,, I thought your book must have
had a typo.... but mine says the same thing.... before I covered, I had
borrowed a stits fabric video with Ray Stits.. and in the video,,as I r
emember,, he put on a layer of polly tac on the alum tube and let it dry,
then applied another coat of polly tac, and pressed the fabric into it til
l the polly tac oozed up through the fabric locking it in place.
does any one else have the video. and can verify my memory or lack thereof
=2E kind of parked myself out on a limb.... didn=99t I.
