Looking to loose a couple of pounds, does anyone make an aluminum exhaust elbow and muffler? Or is this just too hot for aluminum? -------- West1m Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=422580#422580

Even if it doesn't melt immediately, it will be so weak that it will certainly fail. Charlie

Hmmm.. You are so correct, very low melting point. I should have looked that up before I asked. I didn't think it had such a low melting temp being the rest of the motor is made of aluminum, like pistons , exhaust ports etc... -------- West1m Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=422587#422587

OK, I have unsubscribed and re-subscribed to see if the list server will accept my messages. Guys, Did you put tapes over the ribs on the control surfaces of your Kolb's? I don't see anything in the instructions saying to do so, but I would thing that anyplace the fabric touches framework there should be a finishing tape. All the tail feathers on my Firefly are now covered and shrunk. I am ready to apply perimeter tapes and got to thinking that the ribs on the elevators and rudder should also be taped. What say you? Thanks, Stuart

Stuart I bought a damaged Xtra, built by a very fine craftsman. Wing has reinforcing tape (1/2" wide) over the fabric and under the big-head rivets. Then finishing tape over that, and 4" bias tape over leading & training edges. Flaperons have 1-1/2" tape over all ribs & struts, bigger tapes over leading/trailing edges. Hope this helps Russ K On Apr 30, 2014, at 8:38 PM, Stuart Harner wrote: > OK, I have unsubscribed and re-subscribed to see if the list server will accept my messages. > > Guys, > > Did you put tapes over the ribs on the control surfaces of your Kolb=92s? > > I don=92t see anything in the instructions saying to do so, but I would thing that anyplace the fabric touches framework there should be a finishing tape. > > All the tail feathers on my Firefly are now covered and shrunk. Right on John Maybe its our age or maybe the damage we have already done to our ears but having my ears ringing, more than it already do, after a flight is not something I enjoy. I can hear my engine whispering to me just fine. I can hear radio transmissions and even recognise their voices. A good ANC headphone with passive ear phones under them as another layer of noise reduction is really nice in my Kolb. Creepy......... is watching someone talk to you and not hearing their voice. - I looked it up once.- Titanium mufflers are made for motorcycles.- I seem to remember that the price wasn't too bad, compared to Rotax.- Hav e to check the flow rate, but sounds like one for a 450 would work.=0A=0A ------------------------- ------------------------- ----------------- Bill Sullivan=0A=0A=0A =0A=0A________________________________=0A From: west1m <west1m@hotmail.com> =0ATo: kolb-list@matronics.com =0ASent: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 5:20 PM =0ASubject: Kolb-List: Re: exhaust weight=0A =0A=0A--> Kolb-List message po sted by: "west1m" <west1m@hotmail.com>=0A=0ATitanium... John, I took the tab off "The Plane from Hell" and tried to fly it. It was okay, if you like flying sideways or getting a big cramp in your left leg trying to make the airplane fly straight. Put it back per the Kolb plans and the aircraft was once again easy to fly and keep the yaw string centered. I only wish I'd been able to put my engine on it and test that configuration.
