Larry,
Very nice video, the music definitely fits. And an odd coincidence... I've
seen you post videos numerous times before, and not being familiar with
your area, always assumed the password you always use is nonsense
letters. Then this weekend you posted this one and I decided to watch it,
but due either to the very slow internet connection at my cabin, or
something with my Android tablet, it wouldn't display. Later that same
evening I was relaxing by the campfire and reading a book on my tablet, a
Louis L'Amour western... and the hero of the story was riding through the
Owyhee valley, which I'd never heard of before. Naturally I looked up the
history of the name, and today when I got back home I was able to watch
your video... sure is desolate, gives a new appreciation of the story for
this northeastern mountain boy!
I'd hate to have an engine out there, though...

Did your check also find that the name was given to the area by some "
paniolo" (Hawaiian Cowboys) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paniolo who upon seeing
the area declared that the area reminded them of their native land. The
pronunciation sounded like Owyhee. They were later killed by the Paiute
Indians.
Thanks for the comment.

Subject: | The end of an era... |
... and a new era begins, for me at least. Last week I sold my Ultrastar,
having put 124.35 hours of flying time on it over 5 years (I didn't fly it
at all last year, life just got in the way). This week I expect to pick up
my new plane, an N-numbered 1992 Fisher 404 biplane that I'm buying from a
close friend. It's been in storage for a few years; hopefully I'll get it
flying in a few weeks. Tomorrow I start working on my BFR if the weather
cooperates; despite all the ultralight flying I've done over the past 10
years it's been even longer since I've logged time in an N-numbered aircraft.
I've had great fun with the Ultrastar but the last season flying it I felt
I was pushing its limits, so it's time to move on. I'll stick around here
for awhile though.

Yup, the wiki article said that "Owyhee" was at the time an accepted
spelling of Hawaii.
