Hi Arty: How are you? No attachment for Webinar registration. Hope to depart via MKIII 7 Sep for the Rock House. Will be celebrating my 75th year by flying another cross continent flight (before I get too old to do it any more). Plan to take the long way, my old route to Monument Valley through Texas and NM, then up to the Rock House. We are having another Rock House Flyin the third week of Sep. Return flight will most likely be the shortest through Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, Arkansas, Mississippi and home. john From: owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of TheWanderingWench Sent: Friday, August 22, 2014 1:07 PM Subject: Kolb-List: If you're curious about flying cross-countries... Here you go: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X22000mfd+capacitor&_nkw=22000mfd+capacitor&_sacat=0 I'll bet you can get by with less than half that size (but be sure to keep the voltage rating above 50 volts). When talking about electrolytic caps (most of the 'can' type polarized caps), an AC capacitor is 2 DC capacitors mounted electrically back to back (in series, with *either* the 2 + terminals *or* the 2 - terminals tied together) in the same case. It takes twice the capacity in each DC cap to make an AC cap: 2ea 100mfd caps back to back to make a 50mfd AC capacitor. Someone may have already mentioned this: grounding and ground paths can make a *huge* difference in noise pickup. In bigger a/c, there's lots of talk about 'single point grounding', and 'ground loops'. Grounding at a single point forces every electrical device in the plane to return its electrons through only one path back to the battery negative. If you have 'local' grounds (to the airframe), then there can be multiple paths (ground loops) back to battery negative, meaning that other devices may see the energy in that ground path, causing 'noise'. In a plane as small and simple as a Kolb, it shouldn't be difficult to run ground wires from everything to the battery negative. If it's a 2 seat plane, mic & headphone jacks in particular should be isolated from the frame so that their ground wires go *only* to the correct terminal on the intercom. Charlie (Yes, I know that the electrons actually *originate* at the battery negative, but it's simpler to talk about them in 'traditional' terms for the sake of troubleshooting.) Hi John -=0A=0AI saw your flight route and I kept thinking - I've been ther e...and there..and there!! I hope you have a wonderful flight. I'll check w ith Larry about the exact dates of the Rock House fly-in and see if there's any possibility of joining the fun. I'm just not sure I can get my "hall p ass" extended - I leave on Aug. 30 for a week's flight on the Oregon and Ca lifornia coast. Last weekend I took 3 days and flew to the San Juan Islands , and tomorrow I leave for 2 days to fly the southern part of the Washingto n coast. Norm says he's not sure he recognizes me when I walk in the door. But - I'll keep my fingers crossed...Norm knows that my long-distance flyin g will end once rainy season sets in, so maybe I can squeeze one additional 3-4 day flight in.=0A=0AArty=0A=0A=C2-=0Awww.LessonsFromTheEdge.com/ulad venture2009.htm=0A=0A=0A"Life's a daring adventure or nothing"=0AHelen Kell er=0A=0A=0A"I refuse to tip toe through life just to arrive safely at death ."=0A=0A=0AOn Friday, August 22, 2014 11:31 AM, John Hauck <jhauck@elmore.r r.com> wrote:=0A =0A=0A=0AEAA Webinars=0AHi Arty:=0A=C2-=0AHow are you? =0A=C2-=0ANo attachment for Webinar registration.=0A=C2-=0AHope to depa rt via MKIII 7 Sep for the Rock House.=C2- Will be celebrating my 75th ye ar by flying another cross continent flight (before I get too old to do it any more).=C2- Plan to take the long way, my old route to Monument Valley through Texas and NM, then up to the Rock House.=0A=C2-=0AWe are having another Rock House Flyin the third week of Sep.=C2- =0A=C2-=0AReturn fl ight will most likely be the shortest through Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, Arkan sas, Mississippi and home.=0A=C2-=0Ajohn=0A=C2-=0AFrom:owner-kolb-list- server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com] On Behal f Of TheWanderingWench=0ASent: Friday, August 22, 2014 1:07 PM=0ATo: undisc losed recipients:=0ASubject: Kolb-List: If you're curious about flying cros s-countries...=0A=C2-=0AI'll be giving a Webinar on Wednesday, Aug. 27 @ 5:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. Be flying through Clovis, Vaughn, Los Lunas, Acoma, Gallup. Plan to RON with Jan and Mike Marker at Los Lunas. That is if I fly the southern or scenic route. The northern route is shorter, but more boring. I have flown it many times. Haven't flown through Monument Valley since 2009. Wind and weather will dictate which route I fly. john h mkIII Titus, Alabama From: owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Brad Nation Sent: Friday, August 22, 2014 5:04 PM Subject: Re: Kolb-List: If you're curious about flying cross-countries...
