Hi Arty:
How are you?
No attachment for Webinar registration.
Hope to depart via MKIII 7 Sep for the Rock House. Will be celebrating
my 75th year by flying another cross continent flight (before I get too
old to do it any more). Plan to take the long way, my old route to
Monument Valley through Texas and NM, then up to the Rock House.
We are having another Rock House Flyin the third week of Sep.
Return flight will most likely be the shortest through Idaho, Wyoming,
Kansas, Arkansas, Mississippi and home.
john

Subject: | Re: Radio intercom |
Here you go:

I'll bet you can get by with less than half that size (but be sure to
keep the voltage rating above 50 volts).
When talking about electrolytic caps (most of the 'can' type polarized
caps), an AC capacitor is 2 DC capacitors mounted electrically back to
back (in series, with *either* the 2 + terminals *or* the 2 - terminals
tied together) in the same case. It takes twice the capacity in each DC
cap to make an AC cap: 2ea 100mfd caps back to back to make a 50mfd AC
capacitor.
Someone may have already mentioned this: grounding and ground paths can
make a *huge* difference in noise pickup. In bigger a/c, there's lots of
talk about 'single point grounding', and 'ground loops'. Grounding at a
single point forces every electrical device in the plane to return its
electrons through only one path back to the battery negative. If you
have 'local' grounds (to the airframe), then there can be multiple paths
(ground loops) back to battery negative, meaning that other devices may
see the energy in that ground path, causing 'noise'. In a plane as small
and simple as a Kolb, it shouldn't be difficult to run ground wires from
everything to the battery negative. If it's a 2 seat plane, mic &
headphone jacks in particular should be isolated from the frame so that
their ground wires go *only* to the correct terminal on the intercom.
Charlie
(Yes, I know that the electrons actually *originate* at the battery
negative, but it's simpler to talk about them in 'traditional' terms for
the sake of troubleshooting.)

any possibility of joining the fun. I'm just not sure I can get my "hall p
ass" extended - I leave on Aug. 30 for a week's flight on the Oregon and Ca

, and tomorrow I leave for 2 days to fly the southern part of the Washingto

But - I'll keep my fingers crossed...Norm knows that my long-distance flyin

Subject: | If you're curious about flying cross-countries... |
Be flying through Clovis, Vaughn, Los Lunas, Acoma, Gallup.
Plan to RON with Jan and Mike Marker at Los Lunas.
That is if I fly the southern or scenic route. The northern route is
shorter, but more boring. I have flown it many times. Haven't flown
through Monument Valley since 2009. Wind and weather will dictate which
route I fly.
