Since the beginning=2C the Matronics List and Forum experience has been fre e from advertising. I have been approached by fair number of vendors wanting to t ap into the large volume of activity across the various lists hosted here=2C b ut have always flatly refused. Everywhere you go on the Internet these days=2C a u ser is pummeled with flashing banners and videos and ads for crap that they don 't want. Yahoo=2C Google and that elk are not "free". The user must constant ly endure their barrage of commercialism thrust into their face at an ever inc reasing rate. Enough is enough=2C and the Lists at Matronics choose not to succumb to that. That being said=2C running a service of this size is not "free". It costs a lot of money to maintain the hardware=2C pay for the electricity=2C air conditi oning=2C maintenance contracts=2C etc=2C etc. etc. I choose to hold a PBS-like fund raiser each year during the month of November where I simply send out a short emai l every other day asking the members to make a small contribution to support the operation. That being said=2C that contribution is completely voluntary an d non-compulsory. Many members choose not to contribute and that's fine. However=2C a very modest percentage of the members do choose to make a cont ribution and it is that financial support that keeps the Lists running. And that's it. To my way of thinking=2C it is a much more pleasant way of maintaining the Lists and Forums. The other 11 months of the year=2C you don't see a singl e advertisement or request for support. That's refreshing and that is a List and Forum that I want to belong to. I think other people feel the same way. Won't you please take a minute to make your Contribution today and support these Lists? http://www.matronics.com/contribution Or=2C drop a personal check in the mail to: Matt Dralle / Matronics 581 Jeannie Way Livermore CA 94550 USA Thank you for your support! From: Larry Cottrell It shouldn't be all that hard. I have been using Duct tape to get mine in the close range. One strip or two=2C but it is a bit less than satisfactory .. I am thinking a variation of the Venetian blind controlled by a push pull throttle type cable. My only problem is I am 130 miles from a metal supply. From: "alienwes" I had radiator louvers/shutters on my 582 PPC. They worked pretty good. On my second 582 I just used black duct tape to block half the radiator during th e winter. I honestly think the duct tape is more simple and less results in less that could fly into the prop if it got loose. -------- Wesley Elliott Sport Pilot-PPC Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=434329#434329 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 10:46:26 AM PST US From: Charlie England Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Radiator shutters? Like this? http://www.vansaircraft.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?ident=1416681550-352-27&browse=engines&product=oil_shutter It's made to fit an 'aircraft' style oil cooler (John H: note the quotes), so I don't know if it will directly fit your cooler. You could get the same effect with less summertime obstruction by building a short rectangular duct to fit the heat exchanger and mount a 'butterfly' style valve that fits in the duct. Control with a Bowden cable. Richard, I used a radiator shutter with the Victor 1. It is quite simple with most of the mechanism purchased as a child's automobile window shutter from Toy or Us(?). I am slowly resurrecting my web site and when I saw your email, I made sure all the info on the shutter is available. Use this jump: http://www.jackbhart.com/firefly/fireflyindex.html to get to my web site. Then go to Victor 1+ and look at the last 8 on the list. Jack B.
