My original firestar with a 377 was quiet. Anyways I was having trouble hearing in my luscombe. I got a different com box, I don't remember which one but it did replace the transcom ll. World of difference. I hear everything now. I suppose the higher speeds create alot more air over the wing and into the prop causing all the noise. I'll try to get the name of the com box I bought tomorrow. Dan Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=436952#436952

You can download an 'app' for Win XP that does what Richard describes, but it doesn't work in Win7. Haven't tried Win8 because it's such a travesty I've avoided it like the plague. If you're running Win7 and use an email program (meaning a dedicated program on your computer like Thunderbird, not web browser-based access), this will work, but it's a bit cumbersome: >From Windows Explorer (not Internet Exploder) or, if on the desktop just point at the image, right click on the image, and from the popup menu, point at 'send to' then click on 'mail recipient'. You'll get another popup that lets you pick image size (mine defaults to 'medium'). The menu will tell you the approximate size of the resized image. It will open a new email with the resized image attached. Anything over 500K (1/2 Megabite) is wasted on a computer screen. If you're still running XP, here's the link to the resizer app (direct from Microsoft): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/xp-downloads#2TC=powertoys Find the 'image resizer' app, download and install. Then Richard's technique will work. There are 'freeware' programs available that function as Richard describes within Win7 & Win8. Just google 'image resizer', and remember, buyer beware when downloading from unverified sources. I edit my photos with a free program called Irfanview (PC. Apple products probably come with better tools). If your native viewer does not support resizing, Irfanview is a powerful, yet easy to use alternative. Just open the folder that has the picture that you want. right click on the picture icon and from the menu choose "edit" then choose "resize" and you will see boxes that show the size of the existing picture. It will show 100 for height and width. That is the percentage of the picture. You can choose any percent you want- 25-50 etc. or you can use the "pixels" instead, that would be a number. I generally use either 1000 or 1500. play with it a bit, it really isn't all that hard. We all like pictures that are big enough to see, but scrolling can be a bit of a distraction. The Kolb list has been great once again. I went with the Microsoft XP resizer option. It added resize to the existing menu. It works as advertised and puts a smaller copy of the image into the library alongside the original file. I shrank a 14.6 meg image down to 446 KB and a 12.2 meg file down to 65.4 KB. I think it's great if people take the time to format their posts and all that, spell things properly and use good prose. I even like it if they size their pictures smaller unless that costs some detail. However, I'm mainly just grateful that they take the time to post their experiences, videos, pictures, advice and opinions about flying and if they don't have the time or knowledge to make it pretty, that's still ok and I want to encourage them to share anyway. Just where I am.... Thanks, Allan Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=436972#436972

I am currently using a Maule 6" solid rubber tail wheel. We made a 4130 .120" tube tail wheel strut, heat treated to 48 RC. Welded a plate on it to mimic a normal flat tail spring. Works good. Of course, all welding and drilling is done prior to heat treating. This same tail wheel strut will work with an 8" Maule Tundra Tail wheel, but that is an overkill and extremely heavy, at about 12-13 lbs. john h mkIII Titus, Alabama -----Original Message----- From: owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kolb-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Guideman Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2015 1:04 PM Subject: Kolb-List: Re: Wind John, This is of this topic but I have talk with you before through this form. I have a Kolb Mark III much like yours, and I wanted to ask you where you got your larger tailwheel, mine is still the small one and I would like to put the larger one on , any information would be appreciated. Nick, I've wired up two Kolbs using Aeroelectric Connection architecture Z-17. On the second one I pulled out a Hot Box because I don't like devices that have wires disappearing into a riveted box and I was trying to save every ounce possible on a massively overweight -3X. Being winter in the land of no sun, you'll really gain from reading Bob Knuckoll's book (best $20 you'll ever spend) and joining his forum here on Matronics. http://aeroelectric.com/ Rick Girard do not archive On Mon, Jan 12, 2015 at 11:49 AM, Nick Cassara <nickc@mtaonline.net> wrote: > Hello Kolb Flyers, > > > Things on the list seem a little slow.. so I soon will need to j ump into > setting up the electrical system in my Kolbra, and my =9Chot box =9D wants to > be grounded to the frame.
