I agree too. I recently posted pics not thinking about the size and did go back
and edit the post. That being said, any post that is relevant to Kolb is welcome
in my opinion. My gripe is that there isn't more activity. Would love
to see more pics, more videos, more build logs.
I know that there is tons of info archived but new posts are what generate some
excitement about Kolb. You can't find hardly any discussion, photos or videos
about the "new" Firestar II SS. I know of at least 2 of these flying but if
someone was interested in this model they would be hard pressed to find a video
of it in the air.
I say post a huge picture of your build progress on anything Kolb! It's better
than nothing!

I haven't flown my mkIII since I landed on my return flight from Oregon the
end of Sep. Eventually, I will, if he weather will cooperate a little bit.
I am tired of Winter and ready for Spring so I can get outside and play.
I used to fly in any wind, weather, temperature, altitude, but that was
yesterday. I am getting a little older and it ain't as much fun flying in
adverse weather now. So....I pick my flying days to suit me. Could have
done the same thing on my last flight out West, Sep 2014, but there is
something about adrenalin that influences the decision making process. Most
of the time if you don't fly when it is windy, you don't get anywhere out
there.
Here is a little bit of history. 10 years ago John Williamson, Kolbra, Gary
Haley, MKIII, me, MKIII, and Ken Korenek, Titan Tornado, decided to do a
last cross country flight of 2005. Of course, the other three were from
Arlington and Houston, TX, and I had to fly from Titus, AL. On 5 Dec 2005,
we met at the airport, Beaumont, TX, flew the river to Port Arthur, TX, then
hooked a right at the Gulf of Mexico, flew south, low level, down the beach
the length of Texas to the Mexican Border, turned right up the Rio Grande,
another right and up the Pecos River, to Sonora, TX, another right to
Austin, Houston, and back to Titus, AL. The flight took me 5 days and 4
nights. Took the other three from Texas, 3 days and 2 nights. All in all
it was a great flight and a chance for four homebuilt airplane pilots to
spend time together. One night we slept on the floor of the FBO at Mustang
Beach, the next night in our tents at the airport in Del Rio, TX.
The photo is of the three Kolbs high tailing it down the beach somewhere on
the Texas coast.

I understand that having someone bitching about the size of your picture
feels a bit like cold water thrown unexpectedly on your enthusiasm. Been
there done that! However there is a bit of truth that every one should
understand. The attention span of most people is about 5 seconds. So when
an attachment is noticed at the bottom of an email- excitement is
generated. Then when you go from excitement to Where and what am I looking
at? Most of us are lost.
As you might remember I send a pretty large number of videos. I have
learned that 3 or 4 minutes is about all the time that I have before some
of the ones who will view it get bored. I have had complaints about not
having motor noise, too much music- and so on. While it might make me feel
unappreciated, it is still true. None of these comments are intended to
hurt, they are just true, and if considered objectively will improve your
ability to share whatever thought you were trying to convey.
Communication where no visible clues are present require a bit different
thinking. Any help communicating still might feel like criticism, but if
listened to, will assist you in getting your message across with the best
information.
So don't be discouraged. Any and all communication from this list is
preferable to jokes about the other political party, or most of the
subjects conveyed. So keep them coming, work at making it more interesting.

Thanks.
My apologies to those on the Kolb BBS. I don't normally use it. For some
reason I took a peek at my post on BBS and was surprised the attached photo
was too large.
Photo size on my email fits perfect. I have no idea how it comes out on
others, and really don't have any control over that.
Love one another.

Have you considered using aircraft cable pulleys made up with 4130 or
6061? Not knowing how you are rigging your rudder control, I think that
is the way I would go, rather than hardware store material. However,
the phenolic pulleys are very expensive. I looked at some on Aircraft
Spruce. Was a shock. I'd try and locate some aircraft salvage
companies to see what they have available.

Great photo. You were flying a real tight formation.
Did a flight of six (five Kolbs) with John H and John W from Iron Mtn. MI
into Oshkosh years ago. The John's were giving the rest of us a rough time
about how wide a grouping we were flying. We were never allowed to call us
a formation. As time went on got use to flying a bit tighter grouping but
never a formation.
Later did a lot of flying with a good friend next to his Firestar II. He
used to complain if I got within a quarter mile of his wing tip. One
evening he was out flying by himself and I unexpectedly flew up next to him
still way over a hundred feet off his wing tip. Ever see someone jump when
you startle them, well his whole plane jumped.
