I haven't seen anything better. I don't think an iPad could do anywhere near as well. Really washes out on sunlight--unreadable Hower I bought a cheap plastic Container that the bottom fits the I pad. With sides about 4inhight, painted The inside black. Makesthe I pad Perfectly readable in any light.I use the I pad for all fllight planing , as a GPS , charts and all navigation. Great setup and cheap. Good luck Frank. The newer '2013' model is said to be much brighter still, and has more total pixels than a full size ipad with Retina display. I find the free Avare software to be more than adequate for basic navigation.
