There was a builder that had a MK III with a VW at Oshkosh 2014. I only got the one picture. Does anyone know who the builder is and whether he has a published log? -------- "But all the knowledge in the world is of no use to fools. The plane is a Kolb MKIIIXtra with a redrive VW on it. The construction looked very good. I talked to the guy quite a bit and made some observations he didn't like. Another guy that is helping on the build decided that the latest series III Valley redrive wasn't up to their standards so he built a new redrive that looks similar to a series II cog belt redrive. The series II valley drive had very nasty harmonics issues with my Powerfin prop and this one looked like it would also. Generally a light wood prop wasn't too bad but my Powerfin didn't do well. This guy is using a Warpdrive so maybe he will be lucky? Another area of concern was that this redrive uses only 5 of the 6 available mounting studs that the Valley redrive uses. Maybe the 6th stud is over kill and unnecessary? Now don't get me wrong the series III Valley isn't perfect but it is so silky smooth. It is still a belt redrive. If they had tacked a gear redrive with good harmonic dampening I would be cheering them on. The engine had a nice exhaust system and what looks like a fuel injection system. Beautiful exhaust system until it reached the "T" at the bottom, where it hits a square wall and then separates left and right. If I had designed the exhaust system, I would have installed an mandrel bent 90 degree single outlet. I don't see any hangers/stabilizers on the exhaust system. Reckon it will stay together with that long run of tubing? john h mkIII Titus, Alabama The engine had a nice exhaust system and what looks like a fuel injection system.
