I wanted to check a fire that was set by an idiot in one of the most
beautiful spots in Eastern Oregon. Leslie Gulch. I think we were lucky that
the fire only burned as much as it did. That is hard country to fight fire
in.

The river is as low as I have ever seen it. We started the year with it at
the levels that were normally seen in late August. Even though the lake is
was down, there have been some heavy rains in the surrounding hills that
have flooded the valley floor. There was evidence that there had been
standing water over most of the upper river. Water doesn't soak into the
ground here, it is too dense. It can only evaporate.
I spent 2.1 hours on the flight, burned 5 gallons of gas. Average speed of
60 MPH.
Its a bit longer than my normal, but the colors today were just striking,
and I had a hard time cutting enough out to keep it short.
