I will admit there are some antenna designs that defy logic, but quarter wave systems are pretty much a science. the ignition and alternator noise is generally introduced into the mix through the power to the radio. on a antenna with poor shielding the received signal can be compromised...but on tx. the signal to noise ratio. (at least the noise getting into the antenna and coax) is minimal. but the noise getting into the radio power system, and the radio directly gets amplified by the radio and becomes part of the signal amplified by the radio. double or 100 % shielded coax and an antenna father from the source of noise should clean up the received signal, keeping the noise from getting into and amplified by the radio is the best way to clean up the transmitted signal.
