Plastic snow boards ought to be better though. The wheels stuck through the skis, which made things a lot easier on the ground. When I first made them there were no holes for the wheels, and even though it was 30 something years ago, and I was a lot stronger than I am now, it was all I could do to move the airplane around. You got to have wheels. Taking off and landing on snow is a hoot, and flying over snow covered landscape is very pretty. -------- Richard Pike Kolb MKIII N420P (420ldPoops) Kingsport, TN 3TN0 Would you consider yourself to be a good person? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWcDXT6pH7A Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=449408#449408 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:28:10 AM PST US From: Colin Hudson Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Re: Winter Flyin' Having grown up in Michigan flying Cubs with skis we always carried two small pieces of 2X4's. Aluminum Skis create friction going across the snow and get warm. The minute we stopped we always lifted one strut at a time and put the chunk of wood under the ski before it could freeze to the ground. As soon as the ski cooled you could set it back down without fear of freezing. If you didn't do this you had a problem. Sometimes I have to put on long pants if it drops down into the 60's.
