Do Not Archive. After 4 weeks of incredible frustration, I have finally resolved a frustrating painting situation, and I thought I would share it with you guys so that you never have to go through the same aggravation, which revolves around Rustoleum 2X Ultracover Paint+Primer. Bought an old Honda street/trail bike and decided to restore/repaint it using Rustoleum Metallic blue Metalflake. Assumed that it would be good to use the same brand paint from primer to clear coat. Finally discovered today that was a flawed assumption. Used Rustoleum 2X Paint/Primer for the primer coat. This is the sorriest thing/stupidest thing I have ever used or done. Painted and repainted and repainted (Never claimed to be smart) all 7 panels of the bike, and kept having the paint wrinkle up on me at various stages of the process. Corresponded back and forth 3 times with Rustoleum service help, no help. If you get the paint on just the least bit too wet, the Primer/Paint makes it wrinkle, even if you give it 3 or 4 days between primer/paint/clear coat. Finally today I laid the color coat right onto the plain Honda 27 year old factory paint, (repaired and reused the front fender which I had not planned to use) it went on perfectly, and clear coated it ten minutes after the final color coat; it turned out perfectly. Turns out the culprit was the Rustoleum Primer/Paint. The Metallic Blue/Clear Coat worked flawlessly. So avoid this 2X Paint+Primer like the plague. End of rant. Thank you for putting up with this, may you avoid similar aggravation. Attachment is the rear fender, primered it Monday, color coat Thursday, clear coat today; Saturday - immediate wrinkles, as you can see. This was the 4th attempt on this part.
