I bought this mini tire changer six years ago at Northern Tool. It has worked well
for me. They no longer carry it, but Harbor Freight is advertising it.
Hope that helps!

Subject: | Re: ALASK or bust/Flying Cross Country in a Kolb Aircraft/Sun |
and Fun 2016
How much are you willing to pay for a 3d party guide in Anchorage area?
Try a touring service in Anchorage. The place is full of them. They
love to see "cheechacos" (green horn, tender foot) from the Lower 48.
To change the subject more towards aviation and little airplanes, who is
going to Sun and Fun, 5 through 10 April, this year?
I haven't missed Sun and Fun since the I went to my first one, the month
my Ultrastar kit arrived, in March 1984. Three months later I had made
my first fixed wing flight as a solo pilot. Never knew what adventure
that little airplane would start. While I was building the US, my dream
was to fly around the hay fields and local airport. I was to be happy
doing that to satisfy my aviation cravings. Never thought of flying
cross country. However, two weeks after I made the first flight I was
on my way from Titus, Alabama, to Tallahassee, Florida, for my first
"long" cross country flight, 500 sm round trip. Two years later I flew
to Miami, Florida, 1500 sm round trip in my FS. Then my cross country
flights started snow balling.
My last cross country flight was to Sun and Fun 2015, and the one before
that was a flight to Monument Valley, Utah, and The Rock House, near
Burns Junction, Oregon, in Sep 2014. I was 75 at the time. I'm
considering doing another flight in the MKIII to the Rock House this
year. Don't have any specific plans yet, and it may not materialize.
Will have to wait and see how me and the airplane do between now and
time to fly. My biggest problem flying 24.0 hours in 4 days is noise.
I can tolerate the wind and turbulence pretty good, even though I don't
like to, but the high noise level really wears me down flying 6.0 hours
a day. It is about time to update my WARP Drive Prop. The old one has
well over 1,000.0 hours on it. It is 71" long. I am going to drop to a
68" prop to try to reduce prop noise. May even pick up a little cruise
speed. John Williamson flew with a Rotax 912uls and 68" Warp Drive Prop
on his Kolbra, which performed extremely well.
Long cross country flights in a slow, noisy, small airplane, are made
more doable if the pilot is in good shape mentally and physically. I've
been working on the physical side since the first of the year.
Upgrading the mental side is probably not feasible. We'll see what
falls out as the year progresses.
Have fun and fly safely,

Subject: | Re: Tire Replacement |
I have struggled in the past to break the bead on my Matco wheels. Created
a few tools with limited success. The last time I needed to change a tube
was at Airventure. Landed on the grass on the UL strip with a totally flat
tire, no brakes needed. Taxi speed was slow and lumby. John Williamson
followed my in, grumbled later he almost landed on top of me.
Took the wheel/tire to the EAA repair shop with a newly purchased tube. I
used their small wheel bead breaker. The bead separated very easy with no
deformation of the wheel. The tire changer that has been indicated looks
like it could stress the wheel when trying to break the bead. Once these
tires seat they really bond themselves to the wheel. HF also sells a small
wheel bead breaker that I have been telling myself I will buy next time I
change my tires. Getting close little/no tread left.

=C2- January 25, 2016 =C2-To all Paradice City Volunteers, =C2-Well
the holidays are complete and it is once again time for the best group of
volunteers at Sun-n-fun to step up and do what we do best, make Paradise
City the place to be.To update you from the end of Sun-n-fun 2015 I can
report that we received high praises from Leadership. Not just to me one
on one, but at the volunteer dinner on Sunday evening. Lites talked about
all volunteer areas at SNF during his speech, and when he got to Paradis
e City he spoke excitedly and commended us on the job we did this year u
nder adverse conditions (Dave), and emphatically stated that Paradise City
was his new favorite place at Sun-n-fun. He spoke about how well the ar
ea looked, how well we managed Doolittle road, and praised how we took it
upon ourselves to man and manage the yellow lot with great success. He fu
rther stated that we enjoyed a safe year in PC as well. He concluded with
praise to our dear departed friend Dave Piper by stating that our succe
ss was an affirmation of his long time work. Lites again praised us durin
g the debrief meeting weeks later with emphasis on the aerial photo regar
ding the appearance of the yellow lot.Paradise City was spotlighted in an
aviation magazines including a six page section and a centerfold featuri
ng Powered Paragliders. Dan Johnson from LAMA also did a video interview w
ith me about PC that was featured in their video magazine. I got to brag
about PC, you all, our vendors, our emphasis on youth in PC, and of cour
se the memory of our great friend Dave Piper.Starting with the ground lo
op party, the debrief meeting, and continued communications all year long,
the issues and challenges ahead are not immeasurable. Lakeland Linder Air
port has honored their promise to completely revamp and lengthen our runwa
y.=C2- It is not yet complete but well under way, and will be a full ti
me legal and maintained runway year round prior to SNF 2016. From the east,
the runway will move 100 feet to the west, and extend all the way through
the current =9Cclear zone=9D to the north/south walkway leadi
ng to general parking. For the event, the NOTAM will state that the runwa
y will remain 1400 feet. This is to discourage larger aircraft from trying
to land there.
Over where we normally house the food vendors a hanger is currently under
construction. For SNF this hanger is slated to house all the small air sh
ow performers=99 aircraft. This also means that during the airshow
(while we are shut down) the airshow planes will be taking offfrom our r
unway and will serve to save SNF significant funds in fuel and enhance th
e flow of the air show. This will have no negative impact on PC. We will h
ave more folks in Paradise City because of the location of the hanger.
This will be announced on the other side regularly. Because we are yiel
ding the runway during the airshow I have agreed to allow the ride hopp
ers to operate out of PC during the air show only. They will operate on
the north side till the show, then transition to PC and return to the no
rth side after the Breitling Jet Team show finale each day. Both of these c
hanges are possible due to the runway extension. This will allow ride hopp
ers significant more time to do business. Again this has no negative im
pact on PC.We are adding a third 6-man cart this year, which will be dedi
cated solely to the yellow lot to shuttle folks parking in distant parki
ng places. The other two will continue to shuttle people back and forth f
rom PC to the Core area.I am currently working with Greg Gibson and a gr
eat new Paradise City Sponsor who is very interested in sponsoring two sets
of bleachers to be placed at the fence line by the runway in PC. I am
very excited about this improvement, as I have observed the need for this
for a few years now.We will once again have the temporary elevated tow
er sponsored by Miami Dade College, back in PC.=C2- I am lobbying for m
ore small vendors (ice cream, corn, drinks and yes Amish doughnuts), we w
ill see how that goes. We are growing and our infrastructure needs to acco
mmodate the growth. The added vendors will assist in guests spending lon
ger periods of time in PC. We are working with the Gift Shop to have a
satellite store in Paradise City, and this was not my doing. They contact
ed me through Bonnie Perkins, this is a great sign of things to come. We ar
e happening. At Sebring Expo last week I was asked by a board member to spe
ak to the Association representing Gyrocopters, which I agreed to do. Hope
fully this will generate more Gyro vendors in our area. I am told that Ch
opper-Town is being revived in a very limited capacity but the vendors wi
ll remain in PC.We have lobbied, begged and connived for some infrastruct
ure improvements, the main one being a permanent power hub with a removab
le distribution panel to service headquarters, the briefing tent, the ann
ouncers stand, and the temporary tower. This is not yet committed but we
are working hard to make it happen, if not for this year, then for next.
This will cut the costs for all those generator rentals, fuel costs, and
NOISE for vendors, our PC visitors, and us. The consensus is that the ne
ed is justified but financing is as always a compelling factor. Keep your
fingers crossed.Greg Gibson has assured us that we will have a better show
er trailer this year. Let=99s just say that I relayed our disconten
t with great conviction. I=99m convinced you all can translate that.
He was in full agreement that last year=99s shower was completely u
nacceptable.Your Directors and I would love to hear your suggestions for i
mprovements to this year=99s event. You can do this by emailing Barb
ara at barbaraf@fha.org . Please put =9CSuggestions=9D in the
