    From: "Richard Pike" <thegreybaron@charter.net>
Finished painting the Firefly today, put it together, and was hoping to fly it, but then the front started moving in, the wind came up, and having to land with a stiff tailwind seemed like not a good idea. So we took some pictures and put it away. All we have left to do is add the VG's, and some home made strobes that ought to weigh less than 5 ounces. (I'll do a separate post on that after it is done) Best of all, we are still within legal specs for Part 103 - WOOT! Here are the pictures. -------- Richard Pike Kolb MKIII N420P (420ldPoops) Kingsport, TN 3TN0 Forgiving is tough, being forgiven is wonderful, and God's grace really is amazing. Not easy to come under the weight limit. Got Miss P'fer out of the hanger, brushed off the big lumps, cleaned the windshield, and flew 11.3 miles from Gantt International Airport to 08A, Wetumpka Airport. Ribs were good, plus I brought home a slab for $10. We always cook too much so we can take some home. Lots of old folks and two airplanes, mine and a Falco based at 08A. My chapter doesn't do a lot of flying. ;-) One of the guys rebuilding a Stinson from the ground up, loaned me some Polytak to repair a finish tape that has pulled loose on the fuselage a foot or so in front of the prop. I'll clean it with MEK, and stick it back together. Then put a new sticker over it. Be good as new. Got to put in an insurance claim for rodent damage again. SOB ate my seats and the foam rubber stick grip, plus a lot of foam I was using in the rear of the fuselage in an attempt to reduce noise. Don't think it helped much. john h mkIII Titus, Alabama

That is why we sold the 447 and replaced it with a 277 free air. The 447 weighed 59.1 pounds, the 277; 42.5 pounds. Not having the fan or cooling shroud on the 277 saved a bit more, but not sure how much. We are also using a hand deployed parachute and counting the weight that the FAA allows for that. Since the chute and hardware only weighs 9 pounds and you are allowed to count 24, that gives us another 15 pounds to subtract from the actual weight. Something that is not helping is that we are still using the original wing fabric and paint, plus our repaint. If we stripped the wings and recovered it with Oratex, we could probably make weight w/o having to count the parachute. But right now, we don't care. -------- Richard Pike Kolb MKIII N420P (420ldPoops) Kingsport, TN 3TN0 Forgiving is tough, being forgiven is wonderful, and God's grace really is amazing. Looking good Richard. Weight is hard to shed easily. Mine still weighs in at about the same weight as when Vince had it. Haven't been able to get anything done on mine since first of the year. I fell on the ice the last of Jan and broke my left ankle. Hopefully spring will be better. -------- Jim P WAR EAGLE Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=478568#478568
