Picture the silencer in different locations, then look at the engine and the potential silencer mounting points, and there are not many options. Probably could have mounted it down/horizontal with the air filter at the mag end and made it work, but we took the path of least resistance. Had left knee replaced three weeks ago. Gotta be careful. Got in and gave her a good run up to heat the oil and such. Felt good. Gotta replace some gas filters and old gas and weather permitting i will flap my wings and pretend im a bird again. Been over a month. Congrats on your shinny new looking firefly. When you line it up on the runway and feed in the power, it feels nothing like the MKIII/582, it just sort of bumbles along and gradually picks up speed, but then it pops off the ground and climbs at about 900' a minute, and I am like "How is this even possible?" It is very similar, and very different all at the same time. I have maybe 6 hours in it so far, looking forward to learning about it. Also, now I need to order some StolSpeed VG's for it. In my case, it also pulled the fabric away from the diagonal longeron. I rib stitched those longerons, blind on the inside because the fuel tank was right up close to the longerons. Only rib stitching I have ever done. I'll cement the tape back with Polytak, then slap a big sticker over it. Be like brand new. There was a couple feet of one longeron each side that was from zero to maybe a 1/4" gap and back to zero. I was afraid, if I didn't rib stitch, the fabric would drum and destroy itself, being that close in front of the prop. Rib stitching worked. Oh, and I haven't had any of my stitches loosen up.
