    Subject: Firefly windshield

    Flew the FF for a bit over an hour a couple nights ago, and it is becoming apparent that the little windshield is not big enough, or the right shape, getting a lot of face buffeting from the wind coming around it. If any of you have a windshield design that works really good for keeping the wind off your face, maybe you could post a picture?     Subject: Firefly windshield
    I don't remember what your windshield looks like, Richard. Before I modified my FS windshield I had to wear a David Clark cloth helmet and goggles. Wind so bad it would blow a ball cap off and blur my vision. My nose and the space between my goggles and cloth helmet was always wind burned and peeling. I came up with the idea of a fairing on top of the windshield. First iteration was too short. Next prototype was just about right. Photo attached. When the fairing was complete I had gained a few MPH cruise.     I believe I used small .032 6061 aluminum tabs, on rivet top and bottom. Bend the tabs to meet the curve of the windshield.     Richard, Here is a jump to my solution for my Firefly. http://www.jackbhart.com/firefly/firefly75.html It worked quite well, in that, it deflected the wind to just above my head. You can always cut the arc taller than needed and then fly and determine where the edge of the direct airflow is passing over your head, and then, trim the arc as needed to lower the flow to just over your head.     Attached a picture of mine. Original Firestar. I lock the windshield down wi th a old fashion screen door (small)bolt latch. The windshield prop rod lock s into a sheet steel support on nose cone support. The windshield is .060 pecan.     I hate auto correct. That was suppose to say, .060 Lexan. I originally had ordered.080 Lexan. But, Aircraft Spruce sent the wrong stuf f. It worked great though. It vibrates a little while you=99re on the g round, but is very smooth inflight.     Thanks, it works well. You still need a way of holding down the front of the windshield. Thats why I use the prop rod. The 3/4 aluminum channel is from the Home Depot as was the latch.
