Subject: | Engine mount Mk3 to Hirth F30 |
Greetings Kolb ers:
I am in the beginning stage of retrofitting my R582 powered Mk3 with a Hirth F30.
I recognize the wheel has already been invented and have no desire to reinvent
I thought to inquire as to the existence of an engine mount kit for my project.
Does any one know of a kit, kit vendor, manufacture, or builder who can
source a Mk3 to F30 engine mount? My idea of a good mount configuration is
a vertically oriented bolted sandwich of engine, rubber, air-frame, rubber at
four corners and two horizontal sandwiches located port and starboard to control
thrust. What say you all?

Is this a used engine? The F-30 was replaced by the 3002/3003 series back s few
years ago. I think your best source for information would be Matt Dandar at RPE
(Recreational Power Engineering) hes been the distributor for Hirth for 20
some years. He has pictures of different installations on his website that might
help? The other great source would be Heaven Bound Aviation. You can Google
both.
I converted my original Firestar to Hirth 2702 this last winter. Ive flown nothing
but Rotax engines for 30+ years so it was hard for me to switch brands. But,
Rotax has left us air-cooled two cycle users high and dry, unless youre confident
in flying a rebuilt engine. Theyve discontinued the 377,447 and 503 series.
Ive put 35hrs on my engine since May. I do run the Hirth recommended (Blue Max
oil @ 90 to 1. Good luck on your project. Feel free to email me off the list
if I can help.

I have received an e mail from Nick Cassara of Palmer, Alaska, who like myself
is coming up on an inspection. He requested that a list of the necessary forms
be posted on the list. So Kolbers if you have recent experience with the registration
process some help please.
Thank
Joe

Seems that the local fsdo office participated in a wings seminar. At that
time they handed to everyone who wanted a package the necessary documents
and information.
Has anyone tried calling there local fsdo to get the paperwork,,,. It was
free....

When I submitted mine two weeks ago, I contacted to FSDO in Columbus, Ohio. I
spoke with one of the inspectors who was quit helpful. He took my email address
and sent me the packet for applying for the airworthiness certs. He also started
a file on me so he could keep all of our correspondence concerning the
building and certification of my aircraft. I am sure any FSDO would do the same.

PS
He also sent me a check list of what he expected to see on the aircraft when he
visited.

Subject: | Firestar / HKS progress report |
Hi Kolbers, greetings form Los Angeles,
I want to post an update on my Firestar/HKS progress. We're getting close to flying,
finally, after a long long time. The wiring was finished, the fuel system
was finished, installing the instruments and sensors are finished, and it's
almost ready for engine runs. Today we pre-oiled the engine using the HKS method
of removing one set of spark plugs, and spinning the engine with the starter,
First I turned the engine over by hand slowly about 50 blades to prime the
pump and get poil through the engine galleys. So when we hit the starter button
it jumped right up to 15 PSI on the gauge. Next trip to the airport will be
engine start and observing the engine behavior, temperatures, and smoothness.
