We went out for flight the other day, flew for about three hours. Great weather
for the flight . After cruising over a few private airstrips, sand and rock pits
and a bunch of field sprinklers around New Richmond we refueled and flew to
Cumberland. There we bought gas and the manager offered us the courtesy car
to go into town and get lunch. When we got back Randy's BeLite wouldn't start
After the mechanic tried to help us jump it it was clear it was a starter issue.
So I borrowed a hammer from him whacked the starter a few times and everything
worked just fine and we thanked him for the help and flew back to New Richmond.
There was a large float plane there getting engine work. I think this ia
the kind of plane we took to Catalina Island (california) when I was a kid.

I like the photo of the Kolb snuggled up to the Grumman Albatross (had to
Google to find out which Grumman it was).
Would have loved to have had a chance to fly something like that.

That is a great picture of your Kolb next to the seaplane. Looks like a great trip.
Weve been having great flying conditions over here in Michigan too. Ive put
50 hours on the Firestar so far this season. Its a lot of fun flying into all
the grass strips up here. Did you go over to Oshkosh this year? I spent a couple
of days at the show. Had a great time.

Didn't make OSH this year. In fact, it has been 11 years since I did OSH. Got
to be more of a hassle than it was fun. I don't do well with the "patrol boys"

I didnt fly over John. I took the Badger across Lake Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin
and a friend of mine who lives in Appleton picked me up. We had a great
time. No flying hassles. Id like to fly over the lake sometime. But its 64 miles
over water from Ludington,Michigan to the airport in Manitowoc,Wisconsin.
Its probably a crazy idea without floats.

I decided to fly the Lake from Manitowoc to Ludington one year on the way home
from OSH. Weather was good and forecast to stay that way. No problem, I had
my brand new self inflatable life vest. Only 48 minute flight with ground speed
of 80 mph. Got about 10 miles off shore and the horizon disappeared. Everything
all around me was blue gray. Almost like flying into a cloud. I turned
around, could see the horizon on the shore line and headed back west, then south
to Chicago. After a little thinking about what I had just about tried, I
decided that flying the Lake was not on my bucket list anymore.
