Subject: | Re: My Firestar 2 Build |
Im always surprised when someone says they dont trust the oil injection system.
It has been around since the seventies on my Yamahas and the 503 on my FS2 had
over 700hrs on it using the system. I considered it the one most important advance
in two stroke technology, greatly reducing carbon build up by varying oil
% with changing engine loads. When we mix, we must blend for max conditions,
making it way rich for cruise power settings, causing carbon build and ring
sticking which causes piston seizures. Gotta have a little faith in the technology
guys.

The wife & I rode 2-stroke dirt bikes all through the 70's and 80's, and the only
time we ever had an oil problem was:
A. I was at my folks house and noticed I was really low on oil, so my dad dumped
in a can of the synthetic oil he used in his outboard motor. My trusty Yamaha
CT175 seized up about a half mile from home. That was when I learned you NEVER
go from dinosaur to synthetic or vice versa w/o purging the system first.
B. Same Yamaha 5 years later, wife was riding it in the woods about 5 miles from
the house and it seized because a branch fouled the oil line and yanked it off
the pump. Relating that to aircraft applications - you need more altitude.
I like oil injection.

i had an old hodaka road toad. and yes I did depend on the oil feed, until I found
myself building the engine because of lack of oil in the fuel. It is just
one more thing that will break if left on.
