Thanks for the replies.
I found out that all our antennas need a ground plane, as it is the other half
of the dipole antenna. It can be the airframe itself grounded to the antenna,
or a sheet of aluminum, or even sticky-back copper foil tapped to lexon in the
form of 4 to 8 spokes that have a radius equal to the length of the antenna
(shorter works but not as good.) They need to be soldered at their intersection.
Craft stores carry the foil tape.

To find a club maybe check with arrl.org and you should be able to find or
search for a ham radio club near you
