Yes. That sounds about right. Especially if youre running a Ivoprop, because of
the blade flex.

I gave the issue of engine thrust line a bunch of thought when I built my
engine mount for my VW powered MKIIIC. It all depends on wing incidence.
You don't want the engine thrust pushing you down and the wing is more
efficient at producing lift than engine thrust so set the engine to point
straight back in flight. Also not right or left. So the answer is no don't
set the engine thrust even with the fuselage boom or the
horizontal stabilizer. Set the engine thrust even with the bottom of the
wing plus a few degrees for the wing to produce lift.
Watching Kolbs fly I see some flying close to boom tube level but most
flying tail high. We had one on the list that must have built his MKIII to
fly way tail high so the fuselage tube is a poor reference. The
horizontal stabilizer frequently gets adjusted after a few flights for
pitch stability. Remember the horizontal stabilizer's function is to push
the tail down and then stabilize pitch.

Thanks guys. If nothing else you have been great at putting thing into perspective
for me.
Yes, grass runways are 90% of the runways around here and the couple of paved ones
are not on my list of places I want to go, so I don't see a paved runway anywhere
in my near future.
I will be doing quite a lot of taxiing before this kolb goes up because I am the
one that restored it, and even though I was very very cautious and I think thorough,
I still want some ground hours to see it is safe.

Ok one more thing. Be very careful not to taxi up to takeoff speed if
you're not ready to fly. If you get to that point and chop the power you
will find yourself airborne and climbing with little flying speed, add
power and you will be nose down with reduced elevator power. Also crow
hopps don't end well with high thrust line pusher airplanes.
Repeat after me add power pull back on stick, reduce power push on stick.
