DO NOT ARCHIVE.
Hoping this flies, posting from my email. One man's opinion. Usually I
just lurk and read.
Do I talk with everyone I know, every day? No. So if no one on here has
any Kolb news.. it doesn't bother me, that the digest says "Zero Messages".
We are in the midst of the worst political divide AND a pandemic crisis.
The two are not directly connected.. but that too is an opinion. And those
are only a few of mine. Folks who have the need to debate such, have their
private emails, Fake book, and the Twit channel, upon which to make their
comments known. (I will simply VOTE privately, and wear a mask in the mean
time).
So my view here, is that unless it's about a Kolb, or flying one, or a
fly-in for Kolbs.. it should NOT be posted here, for 2 huge reasons. It's
all controversial, and it's not about KOLBS!

Has anybody ever had a problem with their EIS showing false readings mostly
concerning CHT's and every thing else, but not turning on the red warning
light?
On my last flight with a passenger, over some really rough country and a
long walk from civilization, the EIS went totally bonkers, about 40 minutes
into the flight. There was no p[lace to land that we both could have gotten
out of again, without walking, so I decided to fly it until it wouldn't go
any more. Well it never got to that point, there was no sound to indicate
that something had departed without us and the engine was running just as
smooth as before, plus the warning light did not come on. I eventually
decided that the problem was with the EIS rather than the engine, so we
came on home.
I did a superficial check of grounds, and could see nothing obvious. This
unit has a lot of hours on it as well as being about 10 years old. I
haven't contacted Grand Rapids as yet, to see what they think. Just
wondering if any one else had seen that problem.

It occurred to me that regarding the recent comments concerning Rev Pike's
mask video, which I personally found very interesting, It was not my
intention to refute the validity of Nick's comments, merely only to voice
the appreciation that there was something else to read and watch other than
the news. At least I didn't shout #$@%^&$ at the computer, as I found the
subject matter to somewhat coincide with my own, which I might add, rather
pleasantly surprised me.
Perhaps it is the fact that most of you rascals are about as busy,
secretive, reclusive, and darn sparse with commentary as any group of
worthless individuals I generally associate with. So carry on with honor
intact, and for goodness sake, go flying. It's fun!

Sure sounds like a grounding issue. Could be a bugger to troubleshoot.
Did it act up all the way home or did it recover at some point?
Can you reproduce the symptoms on the ground with or without the engine
running?
Were you able to determine the system voltage while this was going on?
Do you have a really good digital multi-meter or an oscilloscope?
Old adage from a farmer friend who restores tractors. =9CCheck the
grounds, check the grounds, check the grounds=9D.
I wonder could it have just been an issue with the LCD display. Heat and
vibration make those things go whacky, but they usually don=99t
recover at all. Try pressing lightly all around the perimeter of the
display and see if it changes anything.
Good luck,
Stuart
