    Still thinking about upgrading my Kolb MKIII, planning to go from a 68" Ivo to a 72" Warp Drive prop, will need to raise the engine so the prop will clear the boom tube. The attached picture shows the typical / normal Lord shock mount method of attachment between the airframe and the motor mount plate. One easy way to gain more prop clearance is to flip the Lord mounts over, they are 1" taller one way than the other, but I have never seen anybody do that.     Richard -=C2- Several years ago I put a longer prop on my Maxair Drifter. Like the Kolb, the Drifter is a taildragger pusher with a long, low boom. I made sure that there was plenty of clearance between prop and boom, and took it for a tes t flight. It was pretty gusty, and when I landed I bounced fairly hard. Wha t I hadn't counted on was the amount of flex in the boom with a hard landin g.=C2- The occasional hard landing hadn't ever caused any problems in the past; in this case, the ending wasn't pretty. Unlike the strut-braced Kolb, the Dri fter has wires. The boom flex caused the prop to go through the wires, whic h caused other mayhem.=C2- I ended up having to truck the Drifter to a fr iend's airport and get it rebuilt.=C2- So - although you don't have any wires, and even though you may not do hard landings any more - you might want to build boom flex into your considerat ions about how much longer a prop to put on your Kolb. You've got an incredible number of experienced Kolb pilots on this list - ( and I have no Kolb experience at all) - so my experience might have no rele vance for a Kolb MKIII.=C2- Arty TrostSandy, Oregon "I refuse to tip toe through life just to arrive safely at death."
