Here's how we did the FF. Get some poster board and make up a windshield template. Use this to figure your size and get an idea of where you want it to pivot. Get some 1/8" aircraft plywood and make a couple of discs per side, these will reinforce the Lexan at the pivot point. Bolt them together and sandwich the Lexan by countersinking a few model airplane blind nuts to the nose bowl side of the inner one and bolt them together with some model screws. Get another piece of 1/8" plywood and epoxy it to the lower front nose bowl as a bearing surface that the inside windshield disc will pivot on. Blend it in to the nose bowl with a little bondo. JB Weld a flat steel washer to the inside of the bowl to keep the pivot bolt from ripping through. The windshield is 1/16" Lexan. Once the windshield was cut to size, we used 1/4"x 1/4"x 1/16" aluminum angle from Home Depot as external braces, with a couple rivnuts on each side for the locator pins & lock handle to screw into. It had to be external because we couldn't figure out how to put it on the inside side of the Lexan and still have it work. Kolb welds several tabs to the inside of the front tubing cage, we used the rear ones to anchor the windshield via pins that stuck through the holes in the tabs, and a pivoting handle on each side to secure the windshield from popping the pin out. Swing the handle up and you can flex the windshield and pop the pin out, gravity hold the handle down and locks the windshield in place. Make scuff plates for each side where the pins and handles live, or you'll poke the locator pins through your fabric. Guess how I know this? The windshield flexed a bit in flight, but we never got it going fast enough to bend it out of shape or have any problems with it. Pivoting forward sure made it a LOT easier to get in and out of the airplane. -------- Richard Pike Kolb MKIII N420P (420ldPoops) Kingsport, TN 3TN0 Forgiving is tough, being forgiven is wonderful, and God's grace really is amazing.
