Sorry Guys, Shortly after my post on 9 July I suffered a detached retina in my
left eye and havent actually had a chance to get her off the ground yet. Took
her to Kingman airport twice to fly it and both times 40-50 degree crosswinds
gusting 20-25 mph and didnt want to do first flights under those conditions. Soon
as I get the eye straightened up Ill put her in the air and let you know how
she does. Here is pic of SPG4 gearbox on my rig. I will take some closer pics
and post here tomorrow Chic

Subject: | Cheap Home Depot VG's |
I have posted this on a couple other forum/websites but cannot remember if I ever
posted this here....
Easy, Cheap VGs. They take about 2-3 seconds to make one and cost about 3 cents
each. They are
very durable and flexible. I put these on my Citabria 15 years ago and they worked
out very well! This
stuff is 5/8 polycarbonate (lexan) that you can buy at Home Depot for about $3
for an 8 foot stick. It
will make 96 VGs. Simply use tinsnips to cut 1 pieces. Then trim about 1/8 off
one side to make 1/2
tall. Then cut diagonal on 1/2 side leaving about 1/8 on end. If you cut diagonal
the entire length it
will leave sharp point that will poke anything that touches it.(fingers, fabric)
You can make both left and right hand units. Clean mounting surfaces
with denatured alcohol and temporarily attach with 3m double stick tape. The tape
is temporary so
you can fly it and make any changes before permanently glue in place. You can look
online to find
recommendations for placement on your aircraft. The adhesive I used for permanent
is LEXEL. Bought it at Tru Value for about $7 a tube....flexible and strong!
