Jay,
Are you using the velcro supplied by the factory? The stuff that came
with my Firefly was really sticky but didn't get really stuck until it
had quite a lot of pressure applied to it. It had been folded and the
folds didn't want to come out at first but out in the sunshine when it
warmed up a little I rubbed it all over again and it has stuck really well.
How long has your paint had to cure? Don't know if that matters but
something to think about anyway.
Does the universal joint look like the one in the picture? If it does,
and it has any play in it, I would replace it. Same with the rod ends on
the tubes, mine had no perceivable slop when new except between the bolt
and the eye but that was a very small amount.
I don't know how the joint is constructed under the red seal but was
impressed with it and was told it would outlast the plane. The plans
still showed how to make the torque tube joint with bolts but this is a
much better solution. Maybe you got a bad one?

Jay, I couldn't get the velcro tto stick by gluing it either. I ordered 3M
backed velcro & it worked fine. First, I ordered the cheaper sticky backed
velcro & it didn't stick well either, so just order the 3M stuff.
Regarding slop in u-joint, my Firestar's u-joints are not sloppy.

well and aileron u-joint seems sloppy
Yes, the velcro is what came with the kit, however, it still seems sticky but it
would be about 8 years old. I'll get it out in the sun and try applying pressure.
I also thought about burning holes in the reinforced areas and running paracord
from corner to corner just so the fabric gap seal doesn't fly off and
go into the prop.
The u-joint I have is the red one like the picture Stuart sent. It is new. I thought
maybe it was an elongated bolt hole so I removed the u-joint and just the
joint itself has some play. Without cutting off the red rubber seal, I don't
see any way to look at it. The problem with a new one will be getting the holes
in the same place as the old one.
