Right now my cowl is in three pieces, bottom, nose bowl and a hinged top
cowl. Just about the same cowl as on my Tripacer. Have seen too many cowls
that do not allow inspection of the engine for preflight or even checking
the oil. It may not be as pretty as a one piece cowl but I'm not into
pretty over safety.
Would make a new, one piece top cowl, possibly of alum with a hump for the
carb and intake.
The Revmaster is a modified Posa and Posa's have an undeserved reputation.
My engine starts on about the third revolution and runs great. Has a
mixture control but does have one problem. If you stop the engine with the
mixture control, about a tablespoon of gas spills out of the carb. You have
to stop it with the gas shut off valve. I still worry about a loose gas
connection or other misfortunes leaking gas on top of a hot engine. Fuel
injection would be the way to go but would probably be to complicated for
this simple engine. I understand that the Volks fuel injection system on
the bus was a disaster.
