I am looking for replacement struts that are about 24 inches in total length extended, and have about 20 pounds of lift force. These are the type of lift strut that you find on pick up cap rear doors or mini van rear hatches. Except of course I would need units with a smaller lifting force. I have come close to finding them at my local auto parts stores, Advanced Auto, Auto Zone and a truck parts store. But they have all been either to long, to short or to strong. I am afraid they will damage my canopy hinge. My current struts have a air valve to re-inflate them but my compressor does not have enough pressure to give these struts the needed pressure. I also think they need are suppose to have some sort of gas in them. It is actually my fault that they lost pressure charge because I got the idea to check the pressure in them with a air gauge and I let out the pressure when I tried to hold the air gauge on the valves. I remember way back once when I had a Piper landing strut go down. I tried to re inflate with a standard air compressor. I ended up making it worse and had to get a guy with a strut pump to re inflate them. On my way to Sun N Fun on a Sunday. That was fun finding an A&P in Aiken South Carolina on a Sunday. Anybody out there have any sources for lift struts or ideas on how I can re-inflate mine?
