Thank you, Z, and all you guys who are helping with this discussion!
new question: what about ground support equipment? What is required and
what is optional but nice to have?

There are several guys in alabama with a lot of experience in the L-29 Alex
Makarenko flew them in Iraq as an instructor. I am down in Jacksonville and
would be more than willing to fly with you in your airplane or mine. Gary's
airplane is a good one. He has gone through it from top to bottom.

To answer your question. Everything is nice to have for GSE. But, a tail
stand, and maybe a set of factory jacks make things a little easier. You can
make the tail stand and use American jacks. The GSE is not so easy to find
in USA.

It is interesting that there is discussion about someone flying L29 aircraft
in Iraq. I was told by the Czech overhaul facility (that performed the
airframe overhauls on the Iraq aircraft in say, 1980s) that these aircraft
had bee field modified to include an upgrade A/C system for better cooling
that was designed and installed in Iraq. Oh, to see one of these
modifications, or to have photos. We need a US GI with a camera!!!!!

David,
I know a pretty nice L-29 that could be purchased in the high $40's that has
a new factory overhauled, zero time engine that is on the West Coast and has
been flying for several years.

Don't we need GSE air to start the engines? Or is the -29 fully
self-contained???

It will Battery start and that's what most guys do.
Sort of a hassle to hook up a GPU and then start the plane and then jump
back out and then pull the GPU cord.....

The L29 has on on board starter, no ground support required other than to
make sure your nitrogen is full, if it isn't just replenish. Other than
that, it's like a J3 cub ;) that burns a lot of gas.

David,
Do have a manual for the L-29?
Have you bought one yet?
Have you ever been in one yet?
Tail dolly not nice to have..Required to have. Unless you live close to someone
who has one.
Have to pull the tail to do an annual. (A real annual)
Trade-A-Plane has jacks for about $200 each. Work great.
Get a manual.
Better yet, Vance can E mail you a training program.
Bill

Thank you, Z, and all you guys who are helping with this discussion!
new question: what about ground support equipment? What is required and
what is optional but nice to have?

There are several guys in alabama with a lot of experience in the L-29 Alex
Makarenko flew them in Iraq as an instructor. I am down in Jacksonville and
would be more than willing to fly with you in your airplane or mine. Gary's
airplane is a good one. He has gone through it from top to bottom.

No. Where does one obtain it?
I would send one if I can find it. Any of these guys will probably send one for
you to copy.

No, but am very close.
Be carefull. Have someone help you to look at it. Did you ever find out why it
got disassembled?
>Have you ever been in one yet?
>
No. Is that important?
Yes. It may not be what you are looking for. Before I imported 37 jets, I decided
I should at least get in one to find out if it would fill my needs. So I paid
for a ride. Smart move. I would have hated to run all over the communist world
then realize I didn't like it or couldn't afford it. Still can't afford it
but what the heck.

Vance will be reading this. So he may send it on his own. Otherwise begging is
in order and always encouraged. After all, we are men and should be used to it.

The L-29 manuals are all on cd rom.. contact Zach.
Hopefully if you buy an L-29 either in pieces or flying you will seek some
knowledgeable guidance not only to benefit yourself, but to also protect the
entire L-29 group......!!
