Don't worry about making the fly-in from the East coast Steve, I think several post ago we suggested that you try to NOT come to our fly-ins. Thanks for doing so, regardless of the excuse. L-39s are available for $125,000. I'll give $33,000 for your pork, it is the other white meat. Then you can get a super fast, high altitude, long range L-39. Or do as I have done, put a Viper in your L-29 and enjoy the ride. And out perform the L-39. Even your fuel flow will go down. Serious question, did you test fly it before you bought it? What were you expecting and which part of turbines & fuel flow didn't you grasp? That fact has never changed since the first turbines. So try to have a good time when at the fly-in yard with your buddies, (I assume you don't alienate everyone,) remember, a bad day at the airport is better than a good day at work. Bad markets are typical. Gas price up = ALL airplane prices go down. I read your first post, you definetly were whinning and bitching. I'm married with children, I definetly know what whinning and bitching sounds like. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..... MOVING ON.... Dear happy owners/pilots; We pretty much figure this is a West Coast fly-in. There are a few in the East that we can't afford to get to. We too want to fly and hang out. Of course we welcome everybody that graves those days when they can fly even if we can only afford a few times around the patch. We need to contact Carl Hayes, learn where we sleep, how many $$ for fuel. I will be happy to call him. Does anybody have his number? Who's really serious about the weekend of the 25th? (week before Easter) Show up Friday go home Sunday or when $$ runs out? (Friday afternoon!) Well, its a great snowy day in Colorado! Normal 25 kt. wind, Skiings good, I'm still vertical and breathing on my own. How bad can it be. Satrt saving for gas! 2's IN! ----- Original Message ----- From: "steve roberts" Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2006 11:50 PM Subject: Re: Re: L29-List: fly-in > --> L29-List message posted by: "steve roberts" > > > Your .02?? > > Do you own an L-29? Now, using the P-51 as an example, take the $1 million dollar purchase price, 60+ gallons per hour of fuel burn, 1000 hour or less TBO on the powerplant, and expense involved with it's rebuild (guessing $75000). Compare that to the -29 price of $45,000, 160 gallons per hour, and replacement powerplants are how much? $8000 or so? Looks like the -29 is much more economical to me! Written from the viewpoint of a know nothing Cessna driver of course, so take my opinion with several grains of salt! If it sits like a pig, walks like a pig and squeals like a pig, then it's a pig! But that's OK because it's an affordable pig to purchase and of course any jet engine is basically a furnace that burns a lot of gas, but what the hell, the general public has no idea that it's an oinker. I'm pretty much enjoying his pokes and jests. The guy has had me laughing my ass off. He sounds like he has personality and he obviously knows how to make a stinging point. The guy sounds like a lawyer or realtor type to me... He's calling a spade a spade, but isn't being a jerk about it. Nothing wrong with a viewpoint that is a bit different. In my line of work I've found that even the captain or first officer that pisses ya off can have an insight that is a bit different from yours and that insight turns out to be the one that keeps from bending the aircraft! I'll fly with him.... ________________________________ Message 11 ____________________________________ Time: 09:10:53 AM PST US From: Ernest Martinez Subject: Re: Re: L29-List: fly-in --> L29-List message posted by: Ernest Martinez Guys, Dont respond to this idiot. He is what we call on the net a troll. He does a little research so he can converse, then goes on topic specific lists and trashes whatever the list members are into. By responding you are feeding into him. This is exactly the reaction he wants. His goal is to get a rise outof people. Just ignore him and he will go away. We had a similar idiot on another list. These are disturbed people more than likely kids who need attention. He doesnt have an airplane, probably isnt old enough to fly. But the worst thing you can do is respond to him. He's obviously educated and skilled in writing and I actually have been most entertained by his viewpoint. That's just me though. I always enjoy the rebel, maybe cause I'm in a profession that is so structured and uptight and quite often I fly with guys that are wound way too tight. Guess I'm the only one amused by him??? Besides he has brought the L-29 forum to life. Anyhow back to fly in stuff Here is the Kingman AZ info. I spoke with Jill and Carl and they said they would be glad to offer any help they can and they will be in town that weekend of March 25th. They are Yak-52 folks, but they have jacks and tools etc., that would be available. The only times to avoid are when they have a big rodeo or a bikers convention otherwise the hotels are very cheap. Cafe on the Airport of Kingman Hertz car rental on the field Travel Lodge close to the field 928-757-1188 Days Inn also 928-753-7500 Budget Silver Queen 928-757-4315 Best Western Kings Inn & Suites 928-753-6101 (nicer) They will get fuel details for me and I'll pass it on. Let me have a go... Would put isolation valve on. Assuming rpm still @ 100% and having just rotated, would initially keep power wide open but monitor rpm and fuel pressure. Isolation valve ON bypasses the automatic acceleration and fuel metering, giving direct control of fuel flow. If steady would declare and land asap, being very careful and slow with power adjustments. One of the Texas guys was flying his L-29 recently and his compressor got hit with some type of unknown FOD He sent me pictures and the compressor wheel was shredded which makes the engine basically worthless as a powerplant in the aircraft. He is coming to Reno to buy a replacement engine TODAY, February 15th. These planes are basically big static display paper weights without a good engine. Hell, it won't even "squeal like a pig" and make noise without an engine. One day your engine is great, the next day you get a small piece of FOD and the engine is garbage. I have a spare for my plane. If anyone is interested I have 2 engines left to sell. I will either put them on Ebay or sell them to a guy who uses them for non L-29 purposes. Years of manufacture range from in the 1970's to the newest in 1983 and were overhauled in 1990-1992. They are in the fiberglass storage pods sealed up in plastic with desiccant moisture absorbing bags. Selling them for $3,500 less than the same engines available in the "northern Mid West". Come with Original Log Books and a tail pipe. Last chance!
