someone has taken finger off start button and then re-engaged while
engine running and the splin is broken

ok I am working on a few m701's and One of them the starter spins but
will not engage. I figure there has to be a bendix type gear or
something but I wanted to get a little info before I ripped it off. Is
this a common issue and if so is there a particular fix. thanks for any
and all info.
