If you prefer building rather than flying, there are some real "Projects" out there. Ask some of the guys that got "Good deals" on their L-29s. I know of several that have more in it than they would have had they bought a flying one. I'm not talking about 100% rebuild. I'm saying take one that is flying for about $40 or a "Good Deal" for ??? put it together right out of the box. The parts you are missing or need to replace are not as cheap as they use to be. However, the one flying for $40 has radio, ELT, intercom, US altimeter and airspeed, AND is certified already. The learning curve is much flater. These airplanes are bullet proof. Easy and comparatively cheaper to maintain. Plus there are a lot of owners willing to help. Thats the beauty of it! So "project" airplanes are available and fun to do if you are not easily frustrated. Dollar for dollar, by one flying. ----- Original Message ----- From: RAMPEYBOY@aol.com To: l29-list@matronics.com Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2006 11:37 AM Subject: Re: L29-List: RE: L29-List Digest: 0 Msgs - 12/22/06 I've always been the kind of guy who likes a project. It also has new generator, new hydraulic pump, new nose gear (bushing was worn on old nose gear) new brakes and brake assemblies, perfect canopies, new tires, NEW elevator (old one had corrosion). Also, the plane has been gone through and assembled by an original Czech L-29 mechanic, not some Yocal shade tree mechanic or some A&P where it's the first time he's every seen or worked on an L-29. It is completely stripped and ready for paint. I would sell for around $35 to $40 K and it's Certified and it has flown plenty with the other L-29's out here on the West Coast in Northern California. At least 9 other L-29 owners have either flown it, or have seen it fly or have worked on it. (Some of the L-29 guys were up for the Reno Air Races last July and helped install a new factory overhauled zero time engine) into the aircraft. So, in this case you do get what you pay for, a good reliable plane that was assembled correctly with a New engine and a lot of headaches and hassles already all taken care of at a great price! Happy New Year's guys. So, except for a few special remaining aircraft, all purchases will need to come from existing US inventory. In my opinion only, the US fleet of L29 aircraft can be devided up into a couple of groups. Those that have been carefully assembled, include decent avionics and have had correct on-going maintneince and those thrown together out of a container or sitting in a shed for years and have no realistic maintenance. That defines the just certifed aircraft from the one that been properly maintained, and will be safe and no surprise purchase. If you expect to pay $30,000 or $35,0000 for a certified aircraft flying I can only say "let the buyer beware" You get what you pay for bob ----- Original Message ----- From: Kelsey Jewett To: l29-list@matronics.com Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2006 11:35 AM Subject: L29-List: rebuild project L-29 Charlie Kraus's widow would love to sell his L-29. It has been stored in their hanger since his death 2 years ago. I started in two months ago and it seemed to work normally. The plane is a bit rough in some places as Charlie was a bit of a character. It has new canopies and a new windshield, new tires and fair paint. I would plan on installing a new engine as this one is a high time engine. I have photos of the restoration when I had the plane.
