Subject: | Almost farming in L-29 |
Thanks all.
OK - well this is interesting. I have taxied another l29 from back and
handed control back to the front without any issues.
Can you define "a couple times"? On this occasion I have pumped them many
times without effect. Even after towing aircraft back to hangar and
checking it out. The front has not re-engaged.
Have gone through flight manual - it does not mention anything. The one
maintenance manual talks about disconnecting the front brake, but nothing
about re-connect.
Gary, was the change simple to swap them around? This sounds like a winner
to do in terms of how we fly these aircraft, with occasional pax in back.
Also noticed how easy the brakes are to squeeze in back, compared to front
because of the spring added to front system. Like to remove this too - ones
hand gets lame after a long taxi in my aerie, as it is very stiff.

Sys tem is working as designed. The instructor in the back has command
authority. When the GIB squeezes the brakes it disengages the front brake
the guy in front has to squeeze a couple times to regain brake authority.

HiAll
Just to copy the Yak52 in which Irecently had a brake failure and went
farming, my L29decided to follow suit yesterday afternoon:-)
I had stopped during taxi fortraffic, and asked the GIB to hold brakes so I
couldcharge up the hydraulic accumulator which was a bitlow.
Then got radio call to saytraffic was clearing so told GIB to let go brakes,
appliedpower and taxied away. Wanted to turn so eased insome rudder and
applied brakes slightly - uh oh nobrakes. Released, tried again, nothing,
cut power andsimultaneously applied emergency brake. It worksgreat!
Stopped in time so avoided the farmingexperience.
Anyone
and much much more:

Switching the brakes is so easy that I was able to do it.
Pull the seat and open up the floor board and swap the cables on the brake
valve and resafety.
Done deal.

I used to have an autopsy report on a guy who ejected from an L-29.
Basically it was an inventory of missing parts......Missing right foot,
severed left elbow...etc

Got this organised before taking ownership / delivery. Still like it -
gives one an extra option.
You don't have to use it, but its there if you need it.
