Subject: | Almost farming in L-29 |
Update - all fixed. Did not swap as cables lengths were different and I was
running out of time.
In case it helps someone else on list, here is how mine works as standard.
There is a lever / cam thingie on the mechanism operated as standard by the
rear brake. This engages the cable drive from front brake. If you pull
rear brake hard (lots of movement) this dis-engages the lever / front brake.
No amount of fussing with front brake will re-engage, ever.
Pulling rear brake "normally" or fully does not re-engage the lever and
front brake. To re-engage, pull rear brake just a touch. This causes the
lever to re-engage, and front cockpit brake starts working again.
I also think its a good idea to swap the cables, for 2 reasons:
1. In my typical use the rear seat is usually occupied by pax who you
do not want overriding anything in front. Best to have "master" in front.
2. Much easier pull - front as standard pulls 2 springs, rear only one
spring, so less effort to apply brakes. Easier to lock up a wheel tho.
Regards to all.
Jorgen

Sys tem is working as designed. The instructor in the back has command
authority. When the GIB squeezes the brakes it disengages the front brake
the guy in front has to squeeze a couple times to regain brake authority.

HiAll
Just to copy the Yak52 in which Irecently had a brake failure and went
farming, my L29decided to follow suit yesterday afternoon:-)
I had stopped during taxi fortraffic, and asked the GIB to hold brakes so I
couldcharge up the hydraulic accumulator which was a bitlow.
Then got radio call to saytraffic was clearing so told GIB to let go brakes,
appliedpower and taxied away. Wanted to turn so eased insome rudder and
applied brakes slightly - uh oh nobrakes. Released, tried again, nothing,
cut power andsimultaneously applied emergency brake. It worksgreat!
Stopped in time so avoided the farmingexperience.

Swap the cables anyway and you can make it longer at the brake handle.
