Subject: | IFF self-destruct mechanism |
I think that I read somewhere that the IFF in the right hand nose access
compartment had [has ?] a self-destruct pyro that activates upon
ejection sequencing. Is this true?
If so, where was the device? Internal to the unit? How was it
removed/safetied?
Thx!
Paul

Iff/xpndr is in right side of nose. That can be
removed (37lbs.) In the cockpit on the right side wall a
small square box with red gaurded switch on top. DO NOT use
wire cutters to cut through the wire bundle. Remove the
cannon plug and trace the wires or tape them up and leave
them. Good to disconnect the battery when playing with
these wires. (they are hot)
Directly aft of the little square box is a long thin box.
That can also go.
Under the hood on the right in a hole you will see the
little bubble level?? That is the ELT. Take it out. The
crash activates it. So don't crash.
