Happy Holidays to all out in the L-29 community.
The list has been very quiet lately..... Maybe this will get something
going.
I am starting to make my air show schedule plans for next year and I am
taking stock of what I need, wish list, ect.
Does anyone out there have a set of tires they are willing to part with?
I am also looking for a set of drop tanks. If anyone wants to get rid
of a set for $500 please contact me at my e-mail bellow.

Fuel prices are pretty good; I've been flying as much as possible. BTW,
Jim McKean has a few L-29's that haven't been certified since they
arrived in the US but look pretty good. You can get hold of him at
captainjimmckean@yahoo.com
Where is DWA? I could like to go if it is not too far...

I read that you need 1000 hours or more flying experience to solo one
(I have approximately 200 with a ppl). My goal one day is to own one.

Very straight forward, pretty easy to fly. If you have heavy twin
experience. Keeping up with engine RPM is the biggest challenge...too
slow without sufficient RPM can get you in trouble, the engine takes too
long to spool up.

Trevor me and you are in same boat. I'd give my eye teeth for one. But I am
too deep already on a Mustang II kitplane, and may never have the 1000 hours
OR the IFR rating. I wish they would drop the IFR requirement. Here's why: I
don't fly long distances, nor do I fly at night, or for long periods of time.
I fly when I want, for fun in the daylight. I am definitely a fair weather
flier. My intentions for an L-29 is to fly locally, for an hour or two at a
time. I know and understand the dangers of getting into IMC, and respect those
who have the training, and ability to fly IFR. But for me, I could not fly
enough to be a safe, proficient IFR pilot. So, an IFR rating is more likely to
cause me to get into IMC, and not come out! My two cents worth. So for the
immediate future, I am going to enjoy my Mustang II once complete, and dream of
an L-29...........

Well, the IFR rating is not really for IMC flying in the L-29. The FAA's
position (as described to me by my instructor) is more a level of
competency plus better instrument scanning. Keeping track of airspeeds
in decent and engine indication is a key part of flying the L-29. The
good news is that the engine just keeps running and running and
running.....as long as there is fuel. Very low maintenance requirements
are really one of the best things about the L-29.
By the way, you won't fly an L-29 for "an hour or two", you will find
that 20-30 minutes will check the box without tearing up your checkbook.
Takeoff, 10 min jet acro, Simulated Flame Out recovery to the pattern
and your ready to land and get out. I took mine to Oshkosh this year,
and while fun, it was pretty hard on the butt flying that far.

Thats fair enough. I plan on doing the IFR someday anyway. At the

want to see what the L-29 is like.
Whats the approximate cost per hour to run one of those birds anyway?
