Subject: | L-29 spare parts Czech Republic, Europe |
The last major spares for L29 held in Czech republic were sold off together
with 3 complete aircraft in 2004. The 3 aircraft had been earmarked for
modernisation back in the 90's - the Czechs hoped to win orders from the
many air forces operating the L29 and give them a new lease on life. The 3
aircraft underwent full factory airfram overhauls, and had more modern
avionics fitted and some systems upgrades.
The market response was inadequate, and the 3 aircraft and spares were sold.
I bought the lot. Still have my L29, now registered in SA as ZU-KGB, serial
4902, the last acquired by Czech's and one of the last built.
Still have spares, a whole big container full. Never got around to
cataloguing everything. A lot of stuff takes up space and will probably
never get used - such as brand new control surfaces for flaps, ailerons,
tailplanes. Still have a couple rudders, no elevators. Have a couple
canopies left, hydraulic pump, lots of odd parts. A lot of it would be
great for a rebuild but probably of no value for most people as its not
consumables.
A few people on this list know me - I have shipped a number of items to
people, some on the honour system and at my cost- for example, to chaps in
Denmark, on the basis when next I am there I get a ride in their L29. Also
sold some stuff.
Regards from sunny South Africa
Jorgen

Hi Paul,
Can't remember if I replied, sorry! I can't email you directly for some
reason, very frustrating. It's either because I have an email account
with a second email address attatched to it or the spam filters in the
USA are turned up to the max! I can only comms via groups and since I
don't have an on-line photo share file I have no pics for you. Sorry!
Keep in touch, all emails get through to me, even the bad ones! ;>))
Cheers,
Frank

Thanks Frank!
I'm certainly going to keep up the site.
Who knows, if there is no interest in the project I may just store it
and work on it in a few years.
How is your 29 doing? Send pictures!

Hi Dennis,
Good to hear from you.
To answer your question, no I basically have only the parts that I
removed from my airframe in order to restore it.
It seems that flight control surfaces, engines and canopies are
getting hard to find. I think the $17,500 I am asking for mine is less
than the value of the individual stripped parts.
Cheers
Paul

You might remember me as the guy who purchased Number 55 at the

your project to the current status.
My aircraft is still untouched and hope to get some additional
time to begin the restoration process. The current economic climate is
forcing everyone to work, smarter, harder and longer just to keep from
going backwards. Then, there is the never ending regulations and red
tape from the FAA just to fly these aircraft.
Did you ever accumulate any additional replacement parts? I was
able to secure some parts, but have been looking for a good deal on a
replacement, zero-time engine along with anything else that might be
desirable for future usage.
Thanks

Hi all,
I have reluctantly decided to sell my L-29 project. I just have
too many other commitments right now and I'd like to see someone
complete this aircraft.
The aircraft is a 1973 C model from the Romanian AF. It was
airworthy when it was crated and shipped to me. It is in excellent
condition.
I have completely stripped the airframe down to the metal sub
assemblies. All the paint is off, wiring and hydraulics are out. The
cockpit, wings, center section and tail are all in cradles with wheels
for easy movement.
I have all the original components, logs, low time engine etc.
This would make a great starting point for a Reno racer -
stripped off all obsolete equipment it would also be one of the lightest
L-29s.
The airframe is in superb condition and would only need a couple
of days of prep work before priming and painting.
Everything is located in Fitchburg MA and I have a team of folks
who would be willing to help load the aircraft onto a truck(s).
Make me an offer.
Best regards
Paul Hathaway
